According to ESPN, Doc and Danny have asked Miller, who is 42, to join the Celtics as a reserve. I wonder if he is planning on playing Center or Point Guard.... as those are the biggest needs of the team... not a retired shooting guard. This absolutely doesn't make sense other than a feel good move to give a veteran a ring. sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2966170

I don't think it's a bad move necessarily, but I'd be curious whether he can play defense. I think Reggie can give us 9 quality minutes a game. Things like this make me think maybe TA is more hurt than we think

I have much respect for miller, but this just reeks of desperation. Miller was never able to guard anybody at age 22, so he's certainly not guarding anybody at 42. Hopefully this was just a courtesy call, and he dosen't accept. I'd rather have oakley at 43. Oakley brings attitude, and he's going to put someone on their fanny when they drive the lane.

I'll take him. Play him late at the end of the 2nd and 4th quarters. With the way defenses would be struggling to hand the GAP group, Miller would be have plenty of chances to stroke some threes.

First question: is he still able to play at this level?
Second question: how quickly can he shake the rust off?
I mean, if he's going to take half the season just to get into game shape, and then more time to get his shot back, its really not worth investing in him.
On the other hand, if he's still in great shape, and he's keeping his shot accurate by playing pickup games and practicing his jumper frequently on the side, then I would give him a tryout. He'll have to earn a spot, though.

I'd like to see him on the roster. 15 min per game would save wear and tear on Allen and/or Pierce, plus his history of big shots would give us a Robert Hory factor in late game situations.
Besides, I love Miller ... he played at UCLA when I went to school there. Never met him but saw him play a lot from the student section.

John Stockton might realistically be available since we are doing the whole take guys out of retirement who never won a ring thing. Bring back Karl Malone as well. Might as well get them both a ring. We need a pg and a big man. It's a whole new meaning to goodwill and celtics pride. Let's see how many players we can get rings that never won one. For some reason why do I think it's not that unlikely that Ainge leaving no stone unturned has called these guys? Patrick Ewing anyone? Larry Bird isn't walking through that door but Reggie Miller, Stockton, Malone and Ewing are.
Our new roster
PG-Rondo SG-Allen SF-Pierce PF-Garnett C-Perkins
Bench
Stockton Reggie Miller Sir Charles Malone Ewing

I'd take Malone in a heartbeat. I'd give the other guys a tryout.

I honestly wouldnt mind signing Miller if he's in shape. He'd be a good character and would get the fans pretty fired up. I dont doubt that he can still shoot it. I dont really understand House and now Miller. I guess you cant have too many shooters. They'd compliment each other pretty well off the bench. Reggie can hit some clutch shots for us. When you have Reggie Miller as your darkhorse 4th option on a last second shot it doesnt get much better than that.
