The Celtics have signed Eddie House and Jackie Manuel. The guard positions appear to be shored up ... now a big man. PJ Brown reportedly wants the full MLE and so will be too expensive for us. They are checking into Motumbo. www.bostonherald.com/blogs/celtics/?p=121#respond

House can shoot it. I was hoping for more of a vet pg but this will do. If Rondo struggles making decisions we are going to be seeing Ray Allen at pg in the playoffs ala larry hughes quite a bit though.

I remember House with the Nets. He's definitely a hot shooter. Quick trigger too. Don't know if he'll be able to handle PG duties, but Doc's system doesn't really call for the PG to do much anyways, aside from bringing the ball up the court.
I guess we were looking for an offensive minded backcourt, backup PG.

House can give us 15 mins and if he's cheap fine.
Old man PJ Brown wants the full MLE? Ha! We should hire that guy from Seinfeld to call him and say "NO ring for you!"

I like the House signing. He's what we needed Allan Ray to be--a quick catch and shoot guy off the bench who can provide an offensive spark. Ainge likes guys who can shoot, and House is certainly a shooter.
Now, looking at a big man, I have no problem with Dikembe Mutombo. He's 54 years old, but he can still block shots. He was never about having a lot of athleticism or amazing leaping ability--he was always about timing and attacking a player's release point, and even at this stage of his career, he can still do that.

Thinking about Jackie Manuel, Ainge signed him strictly to help our perimeter defense off the bench. Manuel is not going to be a well known player in Boston--he'll probably get 10 - 12 minutes off the bench, and all he'll be asked to do is do his best to pester guys like Lebron, Vince, Redd, Kobe, Wade, etc, while R-Allen and Pierce take a breather. Manuel is not a lock down defender, but he is lanky and quick and springy, so he can definitely pester guys.
Imagine a shorter version of Walter McCarty, and that's who Jackie Manuel is.

PJ, baby, why you treating me this way? ive been singing your praises to the good people of CG all off-season! Dont turn your back on me now! If PJ is gonna be that way, I think DM would be great move, but I coulda swore i read somewhere that the only options hes considering are going back to Houston or retiring. Lets hope that Scot Pollard has no delusions of full MLE contracts floating in his head.

I feel weird about signing House , because he is a shooter ... i was thinking we need a passer at pg(vet) position ....

House is not a good ball handler or decision maker. And Manuel is no Walter He does not have Walters outside shot,,shot blocking or as good a rebounder

Agreed...I live in Phoenix and he was ok with the Suns but demanded to be traded due to lack of playing time. He is a average player but what I don't like is his attitude. I hope adjusts here in Boston. House is not a good ball handler or decision maker. And Manuel is no Walter He does not have Walters outside shot,,shot blocking or as good a rebounder

These signings are nothing more than specialist type of deals. House comes in spot-up minutes when we need scoring. And Manual is used when we need to make defensive adjustment (aka Brandon Wallace type role).
We'll see who else Ainge has in mind. I expect a Mutombo/Dale Davis type signing in order to back-up Perk. Maybe we'll resign Ratliff when Minny decides to cut him.

JHVOS is right. House was just brought in as a sharp shooting specialist. Its very possible that Ainge didn't bring him in to be our veteran PG help--we may still be searching for PG help.

Hudson is not a bad choice. He can definitely handle our backup PG duties.

House is good, at least fantasy league wise.
