In reviewing the facts I can't believe people even discuss this sometimes. Tony Allen played like an all-star for about a month and a half last year. He is an excellent defender. In summer league action against guys that will hardly make the team GG shot like 28%. He also has no idea what defense is. He's so bad at it, he'd do better to just cherry pick and let the team play 4 on 5 defense. The only issue here whatsoever is TA's health.

I dont think gerald will ever be a shutdown defender but it has definitely improved. TA is a great defender and a great player who I like for the team but he doesn't have the ceiling GG or does, or the athletic ability after his injury. GG is also 3 years younger, and almost 5 inches taller. Its almost a choice or preference, Desmond Mason/Fred Jones (TA) vs. Jason Richardson/JR Smith (GG).
J-Rich is the best out of these 3 but im sure you can see the comparisons.

GG may have a high ceiling, but after two years he's still in the basement. He shouldn't be a liability every time he steps on the court when it's not a dunk contest

TA is a great player, when he is healthy. G2, could be a great player that has potential. Toss-up.

GG just got that swagger, and is oozing with potential, you see his tall lanky frame and long arms and your like damn if he can put on another 10-15 lbs, he is gonna be something. He'll never be Kobe on offense or Artest on d, but I think he is gonna be player.

On his horrendous performance, I wouldn't be surprised if either: A. He put on some muscles in the off-season and he may just getting the feel for his, body anybody who has ever lifted and then went to ball knows what I mean. Not an excuse. B. Like someone else said maybe Ainge is trying to lower his value and told him to turn it down in the summer league cause they really like his potential. or C. He really wants to be a Celtic and is trying to lower his own value, because he knows he is a hot commodity. These are just my own ideas (and someone elses), and are probably nowhere close to the truth.

Gerald Green is a competitor and his disappointing performance this summer league will prompt him to work even harder. His jumper, which is generally his stronger suit, wasn't there this summer league, and maybe his added muscles have made his jumpers a bit off target. Nothing that practice can't cure, though.
What I'm more concerned about is his lack of penetrating ability. He doesn't seem to have that gear to get in front of his man on dribble penetrations. I've stated this in the past, but Gerald's lateral agility needs work. Going forward and jumping isn't a problem, but moving his body from side to side explosively appears to be lacking.
But he's still just a young one and can work on his body. I'm not going to lose my cool about Gerald.

If TA hadnt gotten injured, I would choose him in a heartbeat. Now its a lot closer, but I'd still go with TA.

most of the same people who doubt in gerald doubted in al after last year's summer league. and everyone was down at the beginning of last season with tony. for good reason because he was horrendous. i like both players and hope both will spend their careers in green

Derren, if he can't get by his man, how can he stop his man from getting by him? I always found it easier to go forward

Hey there, Gandahlf, welcome aboard.
Lot of folks are giving Gerald the slip because of his poor showing in the summer league, but all is not lost. If you go back and watch the games, a good amount of the shots he missed were right on target, but either long or short. If you ever miss a shot long or short, you know its a matter of adding a bit more touch or getting more lift on your jumpers. If his jumpers were consistently inconsistent (meaning he's hitting the side of the rim, the back of the rim, the front of the rim, etc.) then there's something wrong mechanically in his form.
Gerald is taking longer to develop his game than Jefferson has, but it doesn't mean he's at the end of his rope. If he's still fumbling around and falling over himself in 2 years, I say its time to move on, but we're not at that point yet.
