I'll be leaving for Brazil on Wednesday, and a lot can happen in 3 days. Talks of Kobe wanting out of LA and possibly coming here are starting to heat up. The ongoing trade talks involving our 5th pick might actually lead somewhere. And will Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson, or Rashard Lewis be Celtics in the near future? Tune in.
But through all of the speculations and expectations, these 2 moves would make my ideal offseason:
-Bring in Darko Milicic for slightly over the asking price if there's competition for him. If no one is bidding for him, great. But if there are other suitors and we have to pay slightly over the asking price for him, so be it. He can block shots, rebound, and score from inside and out. And he's only 22 years old, plus Clifford Ray can make him into a force. He'd be a terrific compliment for Big Al, and the 2 can be incredible big men for us for the next 10 - 12 years.
-Draft one of the top SF's in the draft; Corey Brewer, Jeff Green or AlThornton. Brewer is probably the best defensively, Thornton is the best offensively, and Green is the smartest of the three. Brewer and Thornton seem to fit in the best in the uptempo game, while Green appears to be the best in the halfcourt sets. I'm leaning towards Brewer being the best fit for our needs, but Thornton's ability to score will help when we play tough defensive teams. And Jeff Green's basketball smarts will become valuable in tight games (like the playoffs). Here's how I would list them in these categories:
Scoring
Thornton
Brewer
Green
Slashing
Thornton
Brewer
Green
Shooting
Brewer
Thornton
Green
Uptempo game
Brewer
Thornton
Green
Defense
Brewer
Green
Thornton
Basketball smarts
Green
Brewer
Thornton
Athleticism
Thornton
Brewer
Green
It should come down to Brewer or Thornton, and right now, I wouldn't be able to pick between the 2.
These 2 moves would satisfy my needs for our team.
