Good morning CGers. As many of you have probably noticed by my posting times, most of my internet time is subjegated to the wee hours. And while I make the bold (some would say courageous) choice not to sleep at night, I usually end up browsing random NBA sites. This late-night interweb perusing led me to the list of 2007 NBA free agents.
I know what your thinking, "fresh, have you gone coconuts? We dont have any cap room!" My answer to this is a snide "No duh." The C's have no cap room to speak of, and there is no MLE player worth making Daddy Wycbucks break out the checkbook. But, there are a handful of older gents that would make great mentor/emergency players that will be available for not much money. The C's should have room for one vet big, and possibly more FAs if we do make a roster clearing trade. Here are some options:
PJ Brown: Ive been harping on this guy for a while now. Dude has crazy experience, is a class act, and could def. teach the kids a thing or two on D.
Scot Pollard: Although I'd been a fan of this guy since his days in Kansas, he truly earned my respect back in his days with Sacto. At the height of the LA/Sacto series, Pollard was often called upon to take what was at that time one of the toughest defensive matchups ever: Shaq. And even though he was hideously overmatched, Pollard always stood in there and gave it all he had. Throw in his rad hair and penchant for 50s Cadillacs, and we may have a challenger for PJs spot on the list
Dale Davis: OK, so he's in his late 50s, and he hasnt always had the best attitude. But just think of what perk could pick up from a guy like Davis. Plus, he's one of the few guys left in the league that is old enough to have played against Larry Bird. A few Bird stories on a cross-country flight should earn him a league minimum contract somewhere.
Joe Smith: A great teammate, a hard worker, and not all that old. Would be higher on the list if was able to play center. Same goes for Bo Outlaw.
Chucky Atkins: One of the few vet PGs on the market. he can still play a little bit, but his days as a starter are done. I wouldnt mind having him here to help break Rondo in. If I remember correctly, he sparked what was prolly the best run we had in the dismal 03-04 season.
