When the Trailblazers come to town and Perkins knocks Oden down, AL J dunks on his head, and Rondo steals the ball from Brandon Roy and alley oops it to Gerald Green for the most athletic dunk you ever saw, they make that into an advertisement on FSN and play it in a continuous loop with the caption "The future is closer than you think"
The other advertisement will say "Watch them to spite David Stern"
Those would be effective ads

If we can't land any top shelf players (KG, JO, Billups, Gasol, Marion, Darko, etc.), Ainge and Rivers are going to feel a lot of pressure, and may be out of a job if we don't reach the playoffs next season. I expect to see at least one marquee player added to the squad this summer.
BUT, I DO NOT WANT GREEN TO BE TRADED. He has real offensive talent and if we can be patient, we will be rewarded with a 20 ppg scorer in the starting lineup in a few years.
If all of Ainge's years of accumulating young talent through the draft (4 years) boils down to just Jeffreson and Green reaching the star level (Raon could reach that level too), I think that's a successful track record.
If that means losing Delonte, Gomes, and Perk, we'd still have a youth movement to build around with Jefferson, Gerald, and Rajon.
The 5th pick in this year's draft is the highest draft pick we've had since the 3rd pick we used on Chauncy Billups. I think we can definitely land an incredible player with this pick. The 32nd pick we have in the 2nd round can also land us a fabulous player, and our youth movement will still be alive and strong, despite losing Delonte, Perk and Gomes.
I think Ainge will see what type of players he can interest by dangling West, Perk, Gomes, Telfair, Theo's contract, whatever exemptions we have, and future draft picks.

Call me crazy Derren but I don't think you win championships with guys like GG. I think you win them more with guys like Delonte.

Well, you win championships with star players and role players. Gerald has star caliber talent, while Delonte is a role player guy. We'll need both types of players to win championships, and its much easier to find role players than it is to get star players.
The way I see it, we need to get stronger roster depth from 1 - 8. Right now, guys like Delonte, Perk and Gomes, who are starters on our team, wouldn't be starters on contending teams--they're like the 8th, 9th, 10th men on those teams. To strengthen our roster from 1 - 8, I'm looking to move guys like them (because they have some value) to add players who can add more strength and production to our starting 5.

I don't want Perk to be traded. He is a good big man and Al's best friend. You keep Perk. Besides, Perk is going to break out this season and surprise a lot of people. He is also going to come back with a decent shot around the basket.

The team needs another star player. Players 3-14 are role players. Danny has done an excellent job upgrading the roster from d-league players (from Carr, Pitino, OB, etc) to role players. However, he has not brought in (free agent, trade, etc) that "star" player that would allieve the burden Pierce feels. Note - Jefferson is the other star player (#2).

That's my train of thought, RR. But I believe role players are the 4th ~ 15th players on the roster. I believe we need 3 really good players who are above the role player's role. We have too many role players and we need to step up our roster in the front of the order. Maybe Gerald Green can be this 3rd player; maybe not. But we still need to beef up our roster at the top.

I don't see why any team woould swap a player who would go into our Top 5, in exchange for role players. Try making that argument in reverse---swap AJ for role players?

And that's the problem we face. If a team like the Grizzlies want to trade Gasol for a bunch of cheap young talent and expiring contracts because in any event, they are going to lose their star player, then maybe we can work something out.
