Ok, say the absolute worst luck happens and we end up with the 5th pick--who would you realistically take?
After Oden and Durant, these are the following possibilities:
Yi Jianlian Brandon Wright Joakim Noah Al Horford Corey Brewer Julian Wright Roy Hibbert Spencer Hawes Jeff Green Al Thornton
Despite missing out on Oden and Durant, there are still quite a few players who could have big futures in the NBA--possibly star caliber talent. I agree that this is a pretty deep draft.

I would select Wright based on potential, and Hortford based on substance. Though, I would pick the latter than the former.

Brandon Wright or Julian Wright?
Julian Wright should still be there at 5; good chance that Brandon will already be gone. Julian could be a big hit once he tightens up his overall game and starts becoming consistent with his jumper.
Horford should still be there at 5.

Trade down with Phx or Chi to get Joakim Noah and Acie Law IV. I think we need to reshuffle the deck quite a bit to get where we need to be if we cannot get Oden or Durant.

Bob Ryan said he thought Brendan Wright could play a lot like a young James Worthy. If theat is 85% true he won't be there at 5.
I'd go with Noah. If our pick turns out to not be an all-star it's not the end of the world, but what we absolutely can't have is a bust and I think he is just about the least likely player to be a bust. I think he could have a ten year career as a decent rotation guy, and I'd take that. We just need at least a contributer and that's him. I'm not interested in outthinking myself and trying to hit a homerun. A nice single will do fine. We already hit a homerun with Al J. My next pick would be Hawes. He won't contribute much for a year or two but he doesn't have to

I think you mean Julian Wright, right Eja? Brandon Wright is a 6'10" PF; I'm sure Ryan doesn't mean Brandon plays like James Worthy.
From the way I see it, after Oden and Durant, Brandon Wright will go 3, Yi could go 4, and at 5, its a toss up between Brewer, J. Wright and Noah. If that's the case, I'm taking Noah.

Our pick can't be a bust. That would mean 2 bad seasons w/ nothing to show.

"Um, just in case the NBA Lottery is a disappointment . . . No. 3 is North Carolina's Brandan Wright, and all I can say is he gets up and down the floor as well as any 6-foot-10-inch guy since James Worthy"
Technically he didn't say he plays like him. He said he gets up and down the floor like him.
He wrote it a couple days ago

Worthy was 6'10"? I didnt think he was that big. Lets hope if we end up with BWright he resembles other aspectso f worthy's game as well. JW was the real deal.

I'm not sure what Bob Ryan was watching, but Brandon Wright's game resembles nothing like James Worthy's.

I'm not sure what Bob Ryan was watching, but Brandon Wright's game resembles nothing like James Worthy's. I was saying the exact same thing, when Stu suspended Amare and Boris for leaving the bench, but not suspending Duncan and Bowen for leaving the bench.

I think in such an important game as these semi-final playoff games are, its just not the right thing to do to suspend such key players as Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw. If anything, suspend them at the start of the next season.
This is truly a bad judgment call. Amare and Boris didn't do anything but take a step over the boundry. If they went over and jacked Robert Horry, then yes, immediate suspension is in order. But all they did was step over the line, pause, thought better of the situation, and kept themselves from joining in the action. And for that they should be allowed to continue playing in these crucial games.
