This is from Loy's Place this morning
In a Herald article, Danny defends his decision to extend Doc's contract. I had to read one quote a couple of times to really believe he said what he said.
X's and O's are overrated? Substitution patterns and timeouts are overrated? I just don't know what to say to this. Not every coach is equal in these regards. X's and O's, substitution patterns, and knowing when to call time outs to settle your team or disrupt the momentum of the other team are crucial to wins and losses. We have lost games because Doc didn't put a defender on the inbounds pass. We have lost games because Doc didn't match lineups with the other team. We have lost games because Doc didn't have any rebounders in the game and we got killed on the boards. We have lost games because Doc didn't call time outs when he should have. I have never once called for Danny to be replaced but if Danny truly believes this, it is time for him to go. He doesn't understand the game of basketball.
I get that Doc is our coach. I can understand the continuity concerns and am ready to give him a chance. But to say that X's and O's, rotations and substitutions, and knowing when to call a time out doesn't matter, really concerns me about Danny's grasp of the NBA game.

I'm hoping he is saying things to defend giving Doc a contract extenstion. Executing Xs and Os and player substitutions are pretty important.

I think w/ Doc getting an extension, alot of partial comments are being misinterpreted.

Other than having defensive sets, what's the point of X's and O's other than setup plays with the shot clock being expired. I don't think a coach whose good with X's and O's would make a much of a difference if the team doesn't have the talent in the first place.
Doc didn't have his 1-2 or 3 top scoreres on the team for majority for season. I can't think any other coach in this league could made any positive effort into this season.

DA isnt saying Xs and Os are overrated, at least not in the way you're implying. He's it's an overrated thing to look at because, IHO, coaches at this level already have that part of coaching mastered. And you can say that Doc lost all these games for us, and I'll continue to disagree with you. Was Doc a great coach? No. But his coaching didnt lose those games for us. The fact that we had an undertalented, innecperienced team on the court is the reason we lost these games. Doc-nor any other coach- wouldve been able to make this team win games this year.

Also on the doc coaching tip, i know that at one time we had one of the highest scoring %s on plays called aftertime outs in the league.

Players win or lose games. However, I am still pondering if Thomas (Knicks) called the "code red" in the game vs. the Nuggets?
