Seems like the Heat are taking some heat for their first round playoff sweep at the hands of the young Bulls, and may be on the verge of dismantling the team to start fresh. This could mean the end of Shaq is Miami.
Shaq is far from being the dominant player he was in ORL and LA, but when healthy, he's still a big load to handle, and better than any current big man we have on the team, including Jefferson.
Would you guys want to trade for him for a quick shot at a title? Say Theo's expiring contract, Gerald Green plus one of these guys (Gomes, Delonte, Perk), and a future 1st rounder?
Shaq Jefferson Pierce Tony Rajon
That's a pretty good looking starting 5.

I have very little desire to do this. It would keep Durant or Oden further away from the floor
The big reason I wouldn't want to do it is cause if Miami couldn't do it I don't think we could, and I would be flat out ticked off if we trade GG and one of my favorite players and then we go out and get beat by the Bulls next year while Delonte goes on to be a 6th MOY and GG becomes an All-star and two years later we still owe them a first rounder.
And if I remember correctly I think Shaq has several years left on his contract. What do we do? Sit Oden or AL J for 3 years? Have Shaq come off the bench?

No, No, and No!!!!!!!
Shaq is no longer the dominant force he used to be. He can look dominant for strecthes, but as the games moves along he wears down and isn't effective. One of the main reason's the heat got swept besides d-wade's injury, was because shaq didnt dominate ben wallace enough to force scott skiles to double team, and free up those perimeter shooters. Teams are showing less and less respect for shaq these days.
Also SHAQ infested the heat's locker room with this flip the swicth attitude, and they didnt take the regular season seriously. Shaq would be a awful locker room presence to a young team like ours. Shaq plays and practices when he wants. He missed 41 games this season, because once again he comes into camp fat and out of shape. I like our squad just the way it is.
Shaq was a one hit wonder in miami, now they owe him 60 million for the next 3 years.

No! Shaq is on the downside of his career and is slowing down considerably year to year. We need to get a player who will be with the team for years and years. Definitely NOT Perk for Shaq because Perk is going to be a very good center for many years to come. We don't need any quick fixes.

All good posts. I wouldn't do it either. I think we can build a championship caliber team with who we currently have, and who we will add through the draft (Oden/Durant).

Also, Shaq would never come here. He is all about the warm weather. I would have to think about it, but it just seems like Shaq is getting more broken down every year. I think the 06 play-offs were Shaq's swan song.

No. Point blank, Shaq has no work ethic.

Shaq has nothing left to give. He may have been the most dominant center during his tenure, but I think he mails it in a bit now. No work ethic and no desire, make Shaq a dull boy. Still would never say no to getting Shaq here though. He's still a big bad dude no wants to battle down low. But it would take too many of our players to work out the deal and ones that we will need for our future, cost too much to keep him (and feed him), and he just plain would not want to.
You guys already covered all of this in your posts, but I was adding, recapping, and agreeing.

And when you consider that Miami wants rid themselves of Shaq (or so we hear), its a telling sign that Shaq is no longer the marquee player he once was. Especially with his Shaq-mongous contract.
On another note, Jermaine O'Neal is wishing to be traded (though its not highly publicized), and if he's traded, he wants to either go to the Lakers or to the Knicks (to be reunited with Isaiah Thomas). I can see the Lakers making a big push to get J.O. because Kobe is pushing managment to go out and get him some help, and J.O. would be a big upgrade over any big man they have.

I am not sure who the laker could give in return. Their best asset is Odum. I am assuming Bynum is not on the table.

It would be cute if they would give Kobe in return

Nope.... This team isn't going to compete for a championship for awhile so why trade for a guy who won't be in this league for no more than 2 years? Especially 20 mil per season.
