Boston, MA - One of the great all-time classics was played out here as the Boston Celtics edge the Philadelphia 76ers in "The Greatest Series Ever" (well maybe until you had this series in some other game between ancient rivals played with a ball, bat, and glove dubbed the 2004 ALCS - that is an appropriate topic on SoSH). Anyhow, Larry Bird in his 2nd season finally beat those tormenting Sixers as the Celtics kept coming back and erasing double digit deficits. Who could ever forget the Celtics down by 90-83 with 4:26 left and going into their hall of fame defense mode? Actually the referees just stood back and let the boys tackle each other as Boston capped off the decisive 9-0 run with Larry Bird's Havlicekean banker from the same spot as 5 years earlier (By Hondo himself) during that Triple OT game. Man I was bugging everybody with my beer breath at the TV room at the student union in my green 33 The Bird shirt I wore every day for two weeks. Man, those days were special. That 2002 minirun was Mickey Mouse compared to the Celtics of the 1980's. Dr J and Larry Bird. That was some of basketballs finest hours.
