It's not possible to determine if there was a tank job going on here or some other teams. Due to the simple fact we had numerous injuries to the majority of our 1st and 2nd stringers. Like Jeff said, Stern will be left to prove a circumstantial case at best. Likewise, he also said the system is set up to help the worst teams get better. What team could be worse than us!? Oh yeah.....Memphis!
Maybe, what they should to replace the current lottery is to make all the worst teams rank the players they want 1-14. Teams would be given a deadline like at the All-Star Break or by the trade deadline etc. Whatever. Then, run the ping pong machine and announce who gets who and where. I can't see why this wouldn't work. I'm sure GM's could workout players and determine who they would want if they won the pick at each of the 14 positions.
Another thought I just had, I should stop while I'm ahead (forgive me I'm tired), just have 14 balls. One for each of the worst teams. It's still luck of the draw and teams cant purposely tank, because of anticipated final win/loss standings.
I'm reaching, I know.
Anyone have thoughts on that idea?

Theirs not much Stern can do. Even, if he tries to punish this team, the players union will go after him. You can't punish one-team and not punish the other.

I dont see what the big deal is. Teams have been tanking for years. I don't think the game is any worse off for it.

The only reason the worst teams have to tank is that other teams that aren't the worst teams tank. They're the teams that should be punished. If all teams played honestly the worst teams would get the best picks like in football. But since lke the 5th worst team will tank teams 1-4 have to do it too. And then even if nobody tanks the worst team might still not get the pick. Like in 96-97. We shouldn't have had to tank. We were clearly the worst team and had the most balls. And we STILL didn't get the pick. And then they want to accuse US of tanking? I don't think so. hypocrites

The way I saw the season - The Celtics did not have enough healthy bodies to compete effectively. Half the team was shelved due to injuries. In the Celtics case it was 5 of the top seven players on the team. The other half had to carry the load hurt and tired all year. The owners understood this better than any of us bloggers. So I will monitor the Doc situation because that will clue me in to what may be really happening. Danny boy certainly looks worried and under stress as would anybody who has gotten the results he has gotten. Any of you colleagues that have ESPN insider ought to weigh in on each of the NBA's teams situations.

All Stern will have to do is look at Pierce's and Wally's injury and realize that we were handicapped. They are our two lone All-Stars and proven veteran players (I won't count Theo in this because he only played 2 games for us). A totally young team can't be expected to carry on without losing two of their star caliber players.
And then of course Tony Allen destroys his knee ligaments--I'm sure Stern realizes that this wasn't done on purpose for the sake of tanking. Tony isn't an All-Star, but he was certainly playing like one IMO.
Our best young player (Jefferson) missed 13 games to injuries. Delonte missed some time, Gomes missed some time, Perk was hampered by a foot injury almost the entire year, etc.
I really don't like it when people who don't know our situation start saying negative thngs about the team, or about manangment (Ainge). This norming, I was listening to our local sports radio station and he was saying he doesn't know how Ainge is still employed, since we are so horrible. First of all, this guy isn't a Celtics fan, so I doubt he knows about our injury situation in detail, and secondly, Ainge has done a fantastic job of accumulating young talent and if he wasn't able to watch the last 15 games of the season and see how Gomes, Jefferson, Rajon, and Perk have improved, then he shouldn't be saying anything.

I really should have, but I'm on government time and I don't think my boss would be happy with me making calls to radio stations while on duty. Plus, it would have been a no win situation because no one here cares for the Celtics and they could care less whether I'm right or not.
