Mark Iavaroni (sp?), currently an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns, has been a hot commodity as a possible head coach next season for a team looking for a new coach. He's versed in the european style of play--a style that is quickly becoming popularized because it involves the entire team and not focusing on individual players--and he has gained value being the apprentice of Mike D'Antoni.
Early on, his name was mentioned for the possible vacancy in Toronto. But Sam Mitchell has gotten his team into the playoffs as the 3rd seed, and for that, Colangelo is said to be ready to offer him a lucrative contract extension.
Next, Seattle was mentioned as Iavaroni's possible destination. But word now is that Rick Adelman may be the next head coach there (according to what was said on HoopsHype).
There's still the ppssiblity of him going to Memphis, but I wonder if we are going to get involved? Depending on what day it is, Doc is either staying or leaving. Ainge has always been a fan of offense and the uptempo game, and Iavaroni may be able to do a better job of getting us to be like this than Doc has been in his 3 years here.
We are already a pretty good offensive team, but I know we can be better and more efficient. We haven't really exploited our fastbreaking capabilities and our halfcourt sets don't really incorporate pick and rolls (a staple of Phoenix's offense).
Of course, defense should be our main agenda this offseason (drafting Greg Oden and acquiring James Posey via free agency should help in this department). But improving our offense will also help us to become a dominating force. So far, Iavaroni's name hasn't been linked to Boston, but we'll keep our ears open and listen for any nuggets floating around the wire.
