Its no secret that these 2 are good friends and talk to each other often. Last season, they discussed the draftees, even though Minnesota picked just one slot before us. So obviously, these 2 know how to work with one another.
Its sounding like McHale is on the hot seat in Minnesota and could be out of a job this offseason. The Wolves are pretty much out of the playoff picture once again and with 5 games left to go, they are 13 games under .500.
I'm wondering if Ainge would play a dual role, acting as our head coach, as well as being a co-GM with McHale? Two heads are better than one, right? Especially if both guys are on the same page. Have McHale do the bulk of the traveling and scouting, while Ainge coaches and does some scouting via video tapes.
Ainge's forte has been his drafting, but now that our team is almost fully assembled (with a few more pieces, including Greg Oden or Kevin Durant), its not like we need Ainge scouring the entire globe for the next big stars--McHale can do that for him.
It'll be awesome to have McHale back in Boston, helping us to succeed and be on top again.
P.S. and no, I don't expect McHale to do us a favor before he gets canned by sending us Kevin Garnett for a bunch of bench players.
