We've been playing solid basketball lately, and the results can be seen. We beat the Spurs, almost beat the Mavs (though we got creamed in our second matchup), we beat the resurging Raptors and won against a nice Magic team. We did lose to the Bobcats, but that seemed to have been a case of tanking the season.
3 reasons as to why I think we're playing better:
1) Our players are playing with good chemistry now. Pierce is back and Rajon has gotten familiar with the starting 5 and this has allowed our starting unit to gel and play with more familiarity.
2) We are running more--and this includes playing at a freer pace. Guys are pushing the tempo far more now than any other time in the season (including Pierce, who has finished some fast breaks in recent games) and we don't seem to have set plays on almost every play anymore. Rondo has been a big proponent for our running game because he constantly gets us into fastbreaks by getting steals (Delonte gets credit too).
3) We are doing better defensively. Not to say that we are nearing where we should be--we still have a ways to go. But we have been doing a better job of playing defense (including Telfair) and rather than screwing up defensive assignments 20 times a game, now its maybe down to 14. Perk has done a fantastic job of shutting down high scoring big men recently. More than that, he's doing a terrific job of not fouling out. Big props to him for this.

Winning rebound battles regularly.
TOs not as numerous.

Perk is feeling better (or learning to play with the pain) and he has given us a defensive presence in the paint and has been able to shut down the bigs on the other team. He is a key to our game and when he is healthy and able to play he takes the team to another level.

The force of Pierce (high), and Aj (low).

i agree that we've seen improvements in defense but even more in rebounding.

Dufus Doc finally took about 65 games to set what should have been his opening day lineup - West, Rondo, Pierce, Jefferson, and Perkins. Had he done that, we would very much still be alive for a playoff spot. I don't think that is rocket science. Injuries would still have dimmed our prospects but these games would have a lot more meaning for the Celtics.

Winning rebound battles regularly. TOs not as numerous. Thank Perkins and Jefferson for the rebounding battles won. Thank Rondo for cutting down on TO's by taking the ball Pierce and West's hands.

To be fair to Doc, there wasn't a Celtics fan on any message baord this pre-season that thought that we should go with this starting lineup. IMO, our best starting lineup(when healthy) is still West, Pierce, Wally, Al, Perk.

I think this lineup would work better: Perk, Al, Pierce, Tony and Rajon.
Tony and Rajon together will be so much fun. A ton of steals and a lot of fastbreaking.

I think in terms of winning a game tomorrow I'd agree with fresh, but in terms of what I'd like to see the coach start the next season with, depending on summer league maybe I'd go with Derren. Also fresh said when healthy. So what is the real Tony Allen when healthy? i'd like to think it was what we saw for a month before he went down which was way more than what GG is doing now, but how healthy can we expect him to be and can he do that for a sustained period. I am also curious if we get Hawes or noah if they can beat out Perk. Especially Noah if we got Donovan, which I doubt will happen.
