Hmm... John Calipari, huh? He didn't do well with NJ a decade ago. I wonder if things can work this time around.

I can think of a lot of other coaches that i would take before Calipari.

I'm thinking there must be better coaches out there. But lets see, Calipari coached UMASS so there may be a tie there between the he and the team.

I'll take it. I love Umass back when they had marcas Camby. "Refuse to lose" ahhh greatness.

I'm not too familiar with Calipari's coaching style. Anyone know if he's an offensive minded AND defensive minded coach? Ainge wants offense and knows we need to get better defensively, so I'm sure he's looking for a coach who can fill these needs (if Doc is not coming back next season).

Yeah, the Tigers are doing a good job of keeping themselves in the game. Hope they don't beat out the Buckeyes because I want Oden to go all the way so that he won't feel the need to stay in college another season to win a title.

I am not happy about this at all. There is no way on Earth you can tell me that a retread like Calipari is better than Doc, who like it or not had a huge investment in this team. If he did get hired I hope it's for an incentive based contract and less than what Doc was making. That appears to be change for the sake of change to me. You get me a Larry Brown and whether I'd like it or not I'd have to shut up mostly. Not Calipari. Please allow me to be the first to line up and publicly doubt Calipari. He's such a good coach? Prove it. He had one run at the final four with a player of the year. He took like 9 years to resurrect Memphis with the occasional pro prospect, and he raised the Nets from a horrid team to like a 7 seed. Big freakin deal. The resume is only slightly better than Pitino's. The NFL equivalent of him is Steve Marriucci. He can always run a decent college program. He can coach at the next level if not particularly well.

IMO college coaches don't have a great track record transitioning to the NBA -- just ask Golden State among others. I'd rather get someone with a proven NBA track record. Adelman or even Westphal come to mind.

Very interesting, but doubtful if Ainge, or anyone else involved would allow something like this to leak now. Same with Calipari. The last thing he would want is his players hearing something like this while playing in the tournament. My guess is that with Thomas re-upped, Cheeks getting a guarantee and Frank set up in Jersey, there is only one Eastern team available for Adelman/Carill, who have both hinted they would like to coach on this side of the country, close to home.

You've got me thinking, JB. If Adelman and Carrill are coming here, I wouldn't be surprised to see Delonte as our future PG. In their system, you don't need lightning quick/creative playmakers to run the team. The system they run requires good shooters at every position, and even though Delonte is not the playmaking PG that Rajon is, because Lonte can shoot the ball, he may be the better fit. He's more like Mike Bibby.

Very good point, Darren. On the other hand, speed in getting into an offense is very important, especially a motion offense where there is a lot of movement, you might need need to let several options develop before a good shot opens. Adelman started off with Jason Williams in Sacramento and went to Bibby after Jason became too unreliable and a bit selfish; stopping for threes coming over the half court line, instead of letting the offense develop. As the Kings started going deep into the playoffs, they wanted a more conservative leader/playmaker. I don't think Rondo is that flamboyant. As for Adelman's Portland teams, Terry Porter was a constant, with Rod Strickland, Ainge and Robert Pack playing some point at times, as they often used a two point guard offense. I do think that Adelman is smart enough to tailor his system around the players at hand and Rondo and West (if still here) would easily be fitted in.

Adelman would be a good fit for the team. Calipari wouldn't. He flopped hard w/ NJ. Granted, he turned UMASS around, however that Final 4 team he had in the mid '90s is longer in the NCAA record books, because of illegal violations which is the reason why he left and left the program in shambles.

But just the fact that Delonte is the better shooter makes me think that he'll be more valued in Carill's offensive system.
