Think about our last 2 games for a second; we went toe to toe and missed winning the game against the NBA's best team--the Dallas Mavericks (in Dallas)--and we visited the Spurs on their home turf, held a lead for most of the game, withstood their comeback, held our composure, and beat them 91 - 85.
These are 2 premium teams who are contender worthy, and arguably the best 2 teams in the league. And yet, we stood up to them and nearly came out with 2 vitories--both on the road, with a shortened bench due to injuries (Wally, Tony, Gomes) and without Pierce being in top form.
What does that say about our team?

It says our guys have not given up fighting and that we may not be as far away as our record indicates from being a playoff team. Our younger players always seemed to take turns looking good individually, but they are now starting to play together better. And with Perkins and Jefferson playing together consistently, we are no longer soft in the middle. Rondo and West have grown together as a backcourt, and Pierce is forming a solid chemistry with Jefferson, giving us the first inside-outside game we have had in over a decade. I wouldn't go as far as saying we will be in the Finals in the next year or two, but the team as a whole is starting to come together, believe in themselves and believe in each other. At this point, I would lean towards continuing to groom our current nucleous rather than trade too many young players away for a veteran.

Worth mentioning that the 2 games were a back-to-back.

What does that say about our team? It says that we are playing well right now and that our guys aren't just going through the motions.

It keeps me coming back for more Green Koolaid.
Seriously, the Celtics are improving and there is no reason to think they will be terrible next year. Also, a case can be made that the league is developing parity as the stars of yesterday fade quietly away and are replaced with all this young talent coming into the league.
Look at the Knicks and Raptors for inspiration and then look at the Kings, Pacers, and Nets all fall apart. Heck, the Lakers would be down around Memphis' level without Kobe Bryant.

In the past with guys like Blount and Ricky Davis and maybe Toine it meant we were inconsistent. It meant on any given nite anyone can beat anyone. But now where the only vet we have on the court is PP it means we are improving, especially since certain players in two or three years have clearly improved, such as currently AL and GG, and in the last couple years West, Perk, and Gomes, and before he left J Reed. We'll find out the real meaning next year.
