At the Texas game hanging out with Durant's mom? Seems like Danny is scouting Durant pretty heavily.

Shouldn't come to anyone's surprise--Ainge loves offensive players and Durant has a chance to be a very special offensive player. He's probably looking at his alternate plans in the event that we don't land the 1st overall pick--in which case Durant would be the obvious 2nd choice.

Is it against the rules for an NBA guy to talk to a college guy or his family?

You know, I have the inclination to say yes. I thought it was a rule that scouts or GM's (or anyone in the organization) can't converse with players or even their families because of the possibilities of bribes and other favors to help draw the player to their team.
Plus, we know that Ainge uses smoke screens to his advantage as well as divert attention. Say that we have the 1st overall pick and say that the Warriors are dying to get Kevin Durant. Nellie, thinking that Ainge covets Durant more than Oden also, offers us the 2nd overall pick plus maybe a second round pick to get Ainge to surrender the 1st pick so that he can grab Durant.
Well, Ainge makes out, not only with Oden, but also with an additional pick.
Ainge is opening up more doors by doing what he just did.

do you guys remember what red did the last time he had the first pick? traded it for the third pick (mchale) and parish. wonder what's up in danny's sleeve. i don't think that he gives up oden or durant but in case they both stay in school danny will surely make some gm's bend over.

Are you sure about that? It seems that Danny is the one getting bent over by every GM in this league. From Walker for LaFrentz to RD, Blount for Sczczerbiak to Brandon Roy for Sebastian Telfair we have sunk to nearly the bottom of the NBA and that is with Paul Pierce on our team. Without him, we never win. Danny is solely responsible for this mess he has created.

yes it's his mess, but it was even worse mess before it. personally i like those bits and pieces of hope that our youngsters provide. 4 years ago it was painful to watch always-fragile-battie, enormous-ego-walker, who's-tony-delk, ruben -what-the-f-wolkowyski etc wering celtics green. i mean i appreciate the year they made to the east finals but c'mon we had no hope but paul pierce. walker used to be ok back in 97,98, 99 but in 2002 he was already an intolerable 3-point-chucker.
the celts are bad this year, one of the worst, but not because we are fundamentally bad but we were unfortunate with injuires. we have too many youngsters - actually we have only three top-class youngsters regarding talent in gg, rr and big-al. the rest are role-players at best. having one of the worst game-time coaches doesn't help as well. we are not that far away from competing anymore. the thing i like best is that we can see it now, not just hope blindly anymore. al is for real, gerald will be the same next year, rajon maybe next year maybe year after that. tony could come back as strong (although he's still a role player), west, perk, gomes are all solid role players. danny will have to focus on bringing in some good defensive role players as well, add some size, hire a new coach and we're ok.
ps - danny has also had to endure such idiocies as gin baker's contract. does anyone want those days back when such deals were everyday solution for the celts. i sure doesn't...

I have a feeling that a lot of the deals that look like they aren't working out are really for financial reasons or behind the scenes reasons. Obie wanted Walker out and was demanding it. Sure Danny brought in the albatross of Raef's contract, but he also got the draft pick that became Tony Allen. The Telfair trade was more about money than it was about the players involved. Danny knew he would need the money to sign our young players and so Raef's and now Ratliff's contract will expire in time to offer these kids contracts that will keep them in Boston. Wally's contract and Ratliff's contract will both figure in giving us the money to sign the kids
Today's paper said the it was just coincidence that he was sitting next to Duran't mom and didn't even realize who she was at first. His mom also stated that she didn't know who the nice man was sitting next to them so it was just coincidence and not Danny trying to influence her or anything.

Sounds like your typical story.

Yeah really. DA is sitting there like "Wow this Durant kid is awesome. If he goes to the pros he'll make a million billion dollars. Man I run an NBA team and we'd love to have him. He'd be a hero for us. Wha? Wha wha wha whaaaaaa? YOU'RE Mrs. Durant!? No!? I had no ideeeaaa.. Oh my gosh! This is soooo embarrassing!" Good one DA

Durant's mother said she didn't even know who he (Ainge) was. Did he just offer a friendly greeting and chit chat about her son (which is allowed), or did he have a conversation about her son's future in Boston (which isn't allowed)?

From the wording of the article, it didn't matter if he said anyting to her. It was sitting hext to them that got him the fine.
