The Herald has a quote from Doc that will give me nightmares for weeks to come. I just finished a piece on Loy's Place on it but figured we should discuss it here.

Doc is not only planning on coming back next season but looking to get an extension. In order to make a statement like this, he must feel pretty sure Danny isn't going to fire him after the season. Is Danny that clueless? He has been great at evaluating talent in the draft, but his free agent signings and his trades have been less than successful. Does he actually believe that Doc is doing a good job? I will have nightmares about this... We don't just have to worry about next season, but now an extension?

The whole premise of him testing out ideas for next season obviously begs the question of whether he will be here.
“I’ve never worried about that,” Rivers said. “I think that was more from the outside. A couple of fans in a couple of paper bags; other than that, it’s been pretty good.”
In that next season is the last on his contract, Rivers has stated that he’ll talk to the Celtics about an extension this summer. While he didn’t state flat-out that he’d leave rather than stay on as a lame duck, it’s fair to believe he doesn’t want to be in that situation.
