Its too bad that Wally couldn't remain healthy this season. With Jefferson emerging as a fearful lowpost scorer, life would have been good for Wally. The way this team is being constructed, having good perimeter shooters like him will make a world of difference.
With Jefferson and Pierce capable of running up the scoreboard, having shooters who can consistently knock down jumpers from midrange and beyond the arc will prove to be too much for opposing teams to handle. That's why Gomes has improved his value by extending his range. That's why Scalabrine is in the starting lineup. That's why Allan Ray has been called up from the D-League. Shooters are at a premium on this team. Pierce and Jefferson force double teams, leaving open shooters to take aim at the target and fire away.
Big Al has made the difference--we are no longer dependent on perimeter shooting. Prior to Jefferson emerging as a lowpost presence, we relied heavily on perimeter players shooting our way to victory. But now, his inside game has opened the door for our perimeter game, not so much to carry us to victory, but extend our offensive attack. We don't live and die by our perimeter shooting anymore--we are a more balanced offensive team.
This is why Doc should have Delonte focusing on shooting the ball more and give the ball handling duties to Rajon and Telfair. Delonte is far more valuable as a shooter than as a PG.
With Allan Ray coming back, his shooting should be utilized as well.

I agree that West is most valuable to us as a 2 guard where he can play to his strengths as a shooter. Doc should be starting Rondo and bringing Telfair off the bench at the PG position.
Doc is now under the impression that Scal is our defensive stopper putting him on McGrady. I guess he had his eyes closed every time Scal got burned by McGrady. I suppose he will be put on Ray Allen tonight and get burned every time down as well. Gerald may not be the best defender, but at least he is quick enough to keep up with him.
