Dwight Howard, now Al Jefferson. The guy can definitely coach, mentor, and develop bigs. ;D

Yes, he truly deserves credit. Jefferson's development this season is largely due to Ray's mentoring. Al's footwork is a lot cleaner, and he's a lot more decisive with his moves. I think having Ray here has shaved off at least 2 ~ 3 years of Big Al's learning curve.

I can't wait for this offseason--what new tricks will Ray have Jefferson doing next season?

Jefferson has learned a lot from Celtics assistant coach Clifford Ray, who worked with Howard in Orlando.

“When I first saw him on the court,” Jefferson said, “I was like, ‘Wow, thank you.’ He’s been real big for me. He’s always in my ear. I just love to hear his voice.”

There is much more to Jefferson's game now, and the addition of Clifford Ray to the Celtics' coaching staff this season has paid dividends. Ray was an NBA center for 10 seasons and has been working with big men since he entered the coaching business in 1987.

“Words can't even express it,” said Jefferson of the help Ray has given him. “When he came in over the summer, I knew that he was going to help my game. I worked with him (the summer after) my rookie year and I knew he had a lot to do with Dwight Howard and his success.

“It was just something when I first saw him walk on the court I was like, 'Wow, thank you.' He's been real big for me. He's always in my ear telling me to do this and do that, and I do it and it's worked out real good for me, so I just love to hear his voice.”
