We've had so many injuries that I'm actually glad we were overcrowded this preseason. Normally, injuries are morally devastating because it holds teams back from running on all cylinders, but in our case, its been a silver lining. Because of injuries, Gomes and Jefferson were able to get the playing time they needed. Because of injuries, Tony Allen was able to get the playing time that led to him regaining his confidence.
And now that Allen has wedged himself into the starting lineup, the person to benefit from Wally's second ankle sprain will be Gerald Green.
Not many players can get into any kind of rhythm when their playing time varies from game to game, especially when their roles change from game to game. In Gerald's case, he gets 25 minutes one game and 6 minutes the very next game. And depending on who's on the court, his role is either to be a spot up three point shooter or the guy who needs to look for his offense more. His time and role varies game to game and for a second year player, that's not an easy thing to do.
Plus, with Gerald in the process of changing his game to suit the team better, its hard to make the transformation when he can't get steady minutes on the court to let the change settle into his head.
Hopefully, the couple of weeks Wally will be out with his ankle injury will be a big benefit to Gerald. Doc needs to utilize this turn of events and give Gerald developmental time.
