Also, from Celticsblog, its mentioned in a french NBA site that Gasol's father said that either a trade agreement has already been made with us and Gasol, or one will be agreed upon very shortly. So who will be the youngsters to be sent to Memphis? That was a very bad translation on celticsblog. I read somewhere that it really translates that they'd(Gasol and his old man) agree to be traded to boston.

Even if that was the translation (and there's verious ones out there), I'm happy to hear that. If Gasol wants to come here, he can force Memphis' hand to make us the only team he'll play for.

I don't think we have a chance to trade for Gasol if we don't give up Jefferson, Green or Pierce.
A threesome of Gasol, Jefferson and Pierce does have big potential, especially if Pierce continues to play good team baskeball like he has been lately.

I'm not sure where is the best thread to point it out, but I would point out that last year GG didn't play till February and that this year he is averaging only an extra 45 seconds a game or so more this year, and despite that has raised his averages nearly across the board.

And just like Big Al, as soon as Gerald is given more minutes, and as his confidence grows, he'll make his mark which will leave everyone gasping for air.

Unfortunately having young guys who are improving still means they may play really well, but still make one or two critical errors that makes the difference. Like take a look at tonite's game. Gomes got only 2 rebs. Unnaceptable. Also we lost by only 1 point. Who is the only player that shot poorly at the line? Al J. And yet I'd way rather they play than say Scala.

Here's the train of thought I'm leaning towards right now. Make the trade for Gasol, but keep Pierce. Yes, this means we will have to trade away Gerald Green, and he could very well turn into an All-Star in the near future. But a trio of Gasol, Jefferson and Pierce is going to be one of the league's best trio combination and that core could be title contenders. I'd very much like to hold onto Gerald Green, but getting a high caliber 7 footer costs a lot. And waiting for Gerald to develop into a star level player will take a few years, whereas if we can get Gasol now, we may be able to be one of the East's top teams next year (best case scenario).
C- Gasol PF- Jefferson SF-Pierce SG- Allen PG- Telfair (or Rondo, whoever is scoring better)
All three of them are big time scorers. There will be tons of games where each of them will score 20+ points in a game. This will also be a good rebounding team (Pierce and Allen are also above average rebounders for their positions).
It may cost Gerald, Gomes, and Perkins (or Delonte), plus a big salary to make it work. We'll need to replenish our bench with solid role players, but we can do that with the drafts and with free agents (when we are winning, they'll come here).

the main needs for memphis are pg and c. if gasol was to leave then also a pf. so i think maybe a telfair, perkins and allen scenario plus a pick would be enough. sure it would kill me to see perkins leave but hey as you said derren you have to give something to get something. also - the pick would heve to be lottery protected in 2007. or give them minnesota pick - even better

You mean Chucky Atkins is not enough for them? ;D Yeah, they may try to pry away either Telfair or Rajon, and I hope Ainge can hold onto both. If not, he has to make one of his best player assesments and decide which one of them (Telfair or Rajon) will be the better player down the road.

With the firing of Fratello, Memphis may go in one of two different directions. They may decide to keep what they have and give it a go with a new coach or they may decide to clean house and start over. Guess it will be a wait and see now.

Right, changes are in order, and the first move was getting rid of their coach. Ultimately, I think Gasol will control his destiny. If he's tired of Memphis and wants out of there, he may be able to force his way out the door.
