FL posted it on the blog site and I thought we could also discuss it here.
We didn't go after Iverson all that much this time around (though in the summer, it seemed like a done deal that he was coming here), and maybe the reason behind it is because Ainge is holding out for Gasol.
Is Ainge targeting Gasol as his primary target to acquire? Would he give up our youngsters for Gasol when he wouldn't part with them for Iverson?
What would you guys give up for Gasol?

How's this thought: since the Griz want to shed salary and acquire youth, what about a multi-team trade that involves us and the Warriors.
Golden State receives Pierce (who is finally united with his longtime buddy Baron Davis) and they give up a couple of their youths to the Griz (maybe Monta Elils, or Pietrus, Biedrins).
We receive Gasol and give away Pierce to GS and a couple of youths to the Griz (anyone aside from Gerald and Jefferson).
The Griz receive youths from us and the Warriors and give up Gasol.
This way, everyone gets something they wanted. We get Gasol and allow more developmental time for Gerald by moving Pierce. The Warriors get their man in Pierce (look at that trio of Baron, Pierce and J-Rich). And the Grizz slim their salary and get youths in return.

You'd have to find veterans from GS or BOS to send to Memphis to match up salaries.

Either GG or Al would have to be traded to get Gasol.
I would be surprise if they accept any trade without either of those two.

If we aren't in position to land a very high pick, I'd give up our valuable first round pick if that would entice the Grizzlies to deal Gasol to us. Aside from Greg Oden and possibly Yi Jianlian, there are no other 7 footers with the skill level of Gasol's. And he's only 26, with years of NBA experience already under his belt.

Also, from Celticsblog, its mentioned in a french NBA site that Gasol's father said that either a trade agreement has already been made with us and Gasol, or one will be agreed upon very shortly.
So who will be the youngsters to be sent to Memphis?

It would have to be Al. Unless it were Gomes AND Perk. I suppose we could also be sending someone like West or Telfair. They are pretty decent at the wings with Gay, Miller, and Eddie and Dahntay Jones. Unless they send something else back. i suppose in terms of money a Theo or Scala may have to go

The trade generator at ESPN lets me do the following trades
Gasol and Lawrence Roberts AL J, West, Bassy, Theo
Gasol and Lowry theo, AL, Bassy, Ray
Gasol and Dahntay Jones Theo, AL, Bassy, TA
Gasol and Brian Cardinal and/or Tarance Kinsey and/or Alexander Johnson Theo, Perk, Scala, Gomes, TA and/or Bassy and/or West
For that one combos of those players work pretty well cause TA, Bassy, and West make all about the same money and so does their two young guys.
So basically we're talking about Gasol and a throw in for Theo and two or three kids. If the throw in is bigger they gotta take back Scala

If Ainge pairs up Jefferson with Pau Gasol, there ain't no team who can consistently contain our post offense. The Nuggets sent double and triple teams early on Al to make him give up the ball, but there ain't no way teams can get away with that if Gasol is playing opposite of Jefferson. We can alternate feeding Jefferson and Gasol the ball and kill teams that way.
We'll be fine with Gerald, Wally, Tony and Allan Ray. Move Pierce.

We coul dprobably send PP, but PP makes about $5 mill more than Gasol and they'd want to drop salary while getting some youth so they have to send some contracts back. Eddie Jones makes a ton, and they'll want to keep Gay and probably Miller so they could maybe send Jones and Brian Cardinal and we send Theo and youth. It could get messy
Ok this works
Gasol, Roberts, kinsey, johnson, jones PP, theo, Gomes Powe and/or west
Basicall PP, Theo, and one or two of our midlevel guys for Gasol, Jones, and their low level guys

Pierce to GS, Gasol to Boston, GS and BOS give youngsters to Grizz.

The buzz about us being one of the leading teams to land Iverson has sharply fallen off the rumor mill, and it mysteriously coincides with the return of Pau Gasol to action last week. And as it was reported in a french NBA publication that Gasol's dad said that a trade has been agreed upon, or will be shortly, it gives us another sign that Gasol could be a Celtic in the very near future.
We'll keep you updated as more bits and pieces are revealed.
