He basically said the C's are out of the running for Iverson as it stands currently. Good job by Ainge sticking to his guns. He did say they made an offer but it was lower than what the sixers were looking for. He basically sounded like the negotiations are pretty much over and he has no idea what is going on with the AI sweepstakes, but said it isn't completely dead, IE he could obviously receive a call and they could get back into it... He did say he thought he and Paul are both professionals and would work well together, but he isn't going to mortgage the celtics future to get it done and as with any trade he weighs those types of things, and you can't get caught up in the emotion of just making a trade for the sake of making a trade. Nothing really knew to his philosophy. This is a philosophy I agree with, and why I still hate C17.

The only offer I would put on the table would be Gomes, Delonte, Theo, and <gulp> Telfair. I have hopes for Telfair, but we have Rajon so our future is still in good hands (Rajon is a jumpshot away from being an All-Star).
Anything more than this is no good.

I'm guessing Derren that's probably what was offered or something along those lines which I would be fine with. To get a player of Iverson's caliber would be good, especially if we can team him with Pierce adn the likes of Jefferson and Green. That would basically be win now and later, so why not? Giving up Jefferson or Green is too much, and even Telfair like you said is tough to give up but we would keep Rondo, and I think Telfair might have to go to make the sixers at least think about it.

Yeah, I can see Iverson changing his stripes if he has proven All-Star players like Pierce and Wally playing along with him. Iverson and Pierce taking turns being the 1st and 2nd options with Wally being the 3rd option and Jefferson being the 4th.
Powe and Rajon off the bench to provide energy and defense and Gerald provides the scoring. And Tony and Scalabrine comes in for more energy and defense.
That might work.

Honestly from the sounds of it I don't think it's going to happen, but I could be wrong. Ainge kind of sounded like he thought AI was a good player but wasn't overly interested. He sounded like any GM that would like to have a player because he's good, but isn't desparate to make it happen. Maybe he's just talking AI down a bit to play head games, but who knows.... He talked about his concerns with AI's age and history with attitude problems, which could be looked at in either way. When he traded for Raef he talked Raef up like he had no knee problems and was going to be a great player for us. He did say regardless of AI's age he is still at the top of his game and has a lot of great basketball left in his opinion. He said AI isn't like a lot of athletes that wear down at that age, which I agree with.

And again, that's a very good sign. Ainge is not willing to give up our top youths, which means he obviously has high hopes for them.
I wonder which trade Philly will finally settle for? They obviously have to do something.
