Pulled this off of a Xavier McDaniel interview from celtic-nation.com:
"And then I went up against Larry Legend that first year. I said to myself, ‘Well, he can’t do anything more to me than he’s done to everybody else.’ Sure enough, he went out and torched me, too [laughs]. I remember a game, before Larry started having all of those back problems, and he was going up against Shawn Kemp. Larry had something like 40 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists. And he told Shawn Kemp, ‘I’m the best f*cking player to ever play this game.’ And then he shot a three-pointer right in Shawn Kemp’s face. And I looked at Larry and thought, ‘You conceited !!!GREENIAC!!!.’ But I looked forward to playing against guys like Larry, and James Worthy, because they forced you to be on top of your game. If you weren’t, then they were going to abuse you."
What a killer. There is also some cool info about Red on there.

Sounds like Larry had a little gangster in him.

Bird was such a killer. To do something like that to young player just puts them in your pocket the rest of your career.

Fortunate for us, he doesn't have the same kill instinct as a GM.

Yeah. Then later on MJ did it to him. And then Pierce did it to Jordan. The universe is at peace once again.

RIght but PP did it to Jordan when he was like 95 and everyone was doing it to him. Then again a lot of people beat up on Bird when he had a bad back

don't you remember that game in 86 playoffs when mj had 69 points? bird described mj as "the god that was disguised as mj"... Seeing that the Celtics won the game(and Bird had a good game as well), I wouldnt say Bird was dominated. And I hate(love) to nit-pick, but I do believe Jordan Scored 63 points in that game.

u r probably right about the 63 points but the my point remains the same - mj is one of those who became bigger than larry as time went by. on the other hand there wasn't many of those whose legacy is currently considered to be better than that of larry bird

Bird was coming off of his 3rd MVP that year, and that 86 team was one of the greatest teams of all time.

Some food for the debate....
1986 Season Stats Comparison Michael Jordan - 18gms, 22.7ppg, 2.9apg, 3.6rpg, 2.1spg, 1.2bpg, 2.5tpg Larry Bird - 82gms, 25.8ppg, 6.8apg, 9.8rpg, 2.0spg, 0.6bpg, 3.2tpg
Playoffs Michael Jordan - 3gms, 43.7ppg, 5.7apg, 6.3rpg Larry Bird - 18gms, 25.9ppg, 9.3rpg, 8.2apg,
Now 1987 was a different story.....
1987 Season Stats Comparison Michael Jordan - 82gms, 37.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 4.6apg, 2.9spg, 1.5bpg, 3.3tpg Larry Bird - 74 gms, 28.1ppg, 9.2rpg, 7.6apg, 1.8spg, 0.9bpg, 3.2tpg
Playoffs Michael Jordan - 3gms, 35.7ppg, 7.0rpg, 6.0apg Larry Bird - 23gms, 27.0ppg, 10.0rpg, 7.2apg
However, except for Points, Bird seems to be the better all around player. Also, pretty much the same story for the next couple years. Although, Jordan does start edging up stat-wise, suprisingly with the introduction of Pippen, however Bird was out basically all 1989. The last remaining years of Larry's career are also just glimmers of his Legend.
