At the start of preseason, we discussed our possible positional weaknesses and many thought that PF was our weakess position, due to the uncertain projectibility surrounding Jefferson, because of his recent injuries, and the lack of depth behind him and Ryan Gomes.
But what once seemed like a questionable position now appears to be on the way to becoming one of our strengths (along with the PG and wing positions).
Jefferson started the season ready to battle on the court. He was averaging 11 and 7 and was getting better and better before going down with appendicitis. He's targeting this upcoming wednesday as his return date and I'm looking forward to see him inject his energy, rebounding and scoring off the bench once again.
Ryan Gomes is not getting consistent touches and his offensive role changes game by game, depending on what the type of defense our opponents play. But you gotta love the way he comes up with loose balls and tough rebounds in traffic by sliding to the right place at the right time. He's got a serious knack of doing that. Plus, he's a smart player and he often helps usher our ball movement by scooting the ball to Pierce or Wally at the right time.
And last, but certainly not least, we got the Beast, Leon Powe. What an incredible steal as a mid 2nd rounder, very likely to be a bigger steal than Gomes was last season. Powe has been making the most of his opportunities, and though he's likely to experience some ups and downs, he's got a future in the starting lineup. Next to Perk, he's our most physical rebounder and I'm willing to believe that he may be our best overall rebounder. He also sets solid picks and IMO, that's what'll be his forte on the offensive end cause once the ball is delivered to him in the seams, he's got a lot of ways to score. He'll either spin, drive, or pull up and release a high release jumper in the paint.
Give these guys 2 years and we'll have the best crop of PF's in the league.
