I'm a big fan of both Telfair and Rajon, and throughout this season, I will be rooting for the both of them to make it big. Telfair has been the starter up to this point, but I'm interested in giving Rajon a shot and see how we do with him starting. His defense is needed because it sparks plays and gets things going.
The other roster move I'd like to try is using Pierce off the bench. Have Perk, Gomes, Wally, Delonte and Rajon out there and see what happens.
And I'm excited to get Jefferson and Powe together on the court again. They really got things going in the preseason and from the looks of it, both guys can deliver the energy, the rebounding and the offense off the bench.

Rondo should be given a shot at starting. He is the better PG at this point and we need his defense against the starting PGs. The Orlando announcers were gushing about Rondo and were saying that he was doing things that only the top PGs in the league do. This kid definitely has talent and should be the starting PG. Telfair clearlly had problems staying with Nelson tonight and Rondo should have been playing against him. I like Telfair too, but Rondo is our best PG.

I agree, flceltsfan12. My impression is that Rondo is both a better defender and more of a "pass first" point guard than Telfair. Telfair can look good at times, but still seems to want to score first, and pass as a "plan B." I personally would have my pg's pass first and shoot second. Rondo seems to be what we hoped Marcus Banks would be -- a defender who can really run a team and set people up by his penetration.

i also agree. the thing with telfair is that he seems to be ideal for that sparkplug pg off the bench role. rondo on the other hand is an ideal pass-first starting pg. however to reap the best dividends from rondo's starting we need an athletic guy starting alongside him who could really run. pp starts anyway abut he doesn't run so much. so ta or gg are best options for that with west a bit behind. it may be premature but i really believe gg should get the nod. it would allow us to get stronger out of the gate and bring in west and sczcerbiak as replacements at wing positions.
and hey - since we are not going anywhere this season anyway then we need to play the core youngsters more.

I'd just like to toss in there that Telfair is purposely looking to score more. Keep in mind that even as early as summer league, Doc was emphasizing to both Telfair and Rajon that they need to be attacking the basket for their own buckets. They both have amazing quickness and the ability to blow by their man and get to the front of the rim and he wants to utilize that part of their games. If you go back and watch the first half of this game, Telfair was doing a good job of locating the right guy to pass to.
Rajon is playing incredible basket, no doubt about it. But Telfair has been showing solid improvements game by game as well. But neither are being used properly, IMO. Both Bassy and Rajon can have bigger assist numbers if Doc allows them to play the pick and roll and use their creativity to pick apart defenses. They haven't been able to do that yet because Doc calls too many set plays. Rondo has shown on numerous occasions that a set play doesn't need to be called in order for him to make something happen. Just give him the ball, have players set picks for him and roll after that. He'll either make a terrific entry feed to the roller, or he'll find a kickout three pointer, or he'll take it himself to the basket. Same for Bassy. All they pretty much are asked to do is pass the ball and watch. That's why I'm glad Telfair makes an effort to score because otherwise our offense gets predictable. And that's why I enjoy Rondo jabbing and moving all the time because good things happen when he's moving with the ball.
Doc is pidgeon hole'ing their creative playmaking abilities.

sadly doc doesn't seem to understand anything about pic. and roll. not how to play and not how to defend it. ...for at least 3 season already

Doc is starting to defend the pick and roll a bit differently, to some mixed reviews. Instead of having the PG fight through a pick, he now has them switching. This means that the PF will switch and guard PG's (like Gomes did with Jameer last night) and Telfair/Rajon will guard a big man after picks. It worked on a few possessions, but I don't like the idea of a PG guarding a big man.

We could revert to the old fashioned two three zone if we are struggling to defend the pick and roll. Weak side rotations are easier to execute if go to the two three zone.

Ironically, the Pacers didn't run the pick and roll like we are normally accustomed from them. I really don't know why they changed? That could be the biggest reason why we were able to defend them well (and the fact that they just couldn't hit open shots).

carlisle wants to implement some kind of running game. maybe that's the reason they run less basic half-court game stuff

And that may be the reason why Jermaine is upset. He's a halfcourt player, as most post up big men are, and as we see by his numbers, his scoring has gone down quite a bit this year. Even in the game on Wednesday, we see that JO had a lot less touches than we'd normally see him get.
With that said, if JO is tired of the uptempo game, he'd probably want to stay clear of Boston as well.

I don't think its the uptempo thats bothering him. I think its the pacers trying to get O'Neal to be more of paint presence when he's more a jump shooter than anything.
JO might come to boston because of Paul Pierce. Pacers don't have anything like PP which is probably more intriguing to Oneal if his goal is to win a nba championship.
