Just had surgery to remove an appendisitis. As if this season wasn't already off to a shaky start, we're getting deeper in the mud after since losing Jefferson takes away our low post presence. Much like last year, losing Jefferson for this amount of time causes us to alter our game plan. He was doing really, giving us energy, scoring and rebounding off the bench.
On a positive note, last season, Gomes got some playing time after injuries took out Perk and Jefferson. This could mean that Leon Powe will get to see some minutes whle Jefferson is out.

Ok so Al J is getting more mins and now getting about 11.3, 7rebs and 1.3 blks on decent shooting in 26ish mins. So at this rate next year he goes to 35mins and gets say 14ppg, 9rpb, 2 blks. Is that good? No. It's definitely not all-starish. It's definitely not tremendous upside pword. However if PP and Rondo and GG become PP, Tony Parker, and Tracy M, then I guess Al being a good version of Horace grant when he was good isn't too bad. Which means it comes down to depth and the center position. Perk has to be basically as good as Al. Delonte and Gomes have to keep being themselves. We have to find ourselves a Bobby Jackson. We have to get more more more. Hopefully our draft pick does a lot of this for us this year. I'm just not talking about Greg O. I'm just not going to. We still aren't due even though we are overdue. I'm allowing myself to think of Noah and Durant, but that's it. That's it. I'm looking at who is predicted at 4th cause I am so tired of getting screwed in the draft and the coach department.

And what about the year after that? Maybe 18 and 10? And when he's at the ripe age of 24 years old, maybe he'll average 20 and 11?

I expect Ryan Gomes and Paul Pierce to see more time at the PF position while Al's out. In other words, more minutes for Green, Allen and West at the SG position.
Hopefully Al can comeback and play the same way before his surgery.

Yep Derren he could do that. Or let's see what else could happen. He could get a tonsil inflammation and be out a month. He could have his wisdom teeth out and miss a week. He could get severe allergies and miss 4-6 weeks. He could stub his toe and miss a game. He could lose the tip of his finger in a woodcutting accident and miss two years trying to wait for it to grow back. I don't understand how this guy is ever supposed to make progress.
Has there ever been a player in the history of the game that did what you are suggesting Derren? I don't think there has been. Not in the same way.
I know I know. How dare I harp on the legendary robust toughness of Al J? Well maybe cause the kinds of "injuries" he gets are the kinds that jv girls basketball players miss a few days for. 6 weeks for appendicitis. What next? 12 months for pregnancy? I'm not sure there's ever been a softer player.
Seriously. Notice how Gomes doesn't get hurt. And how West plays in pain. Be like that Al. Be like Gomes. It's ok. Go ahead. Or be like Brett Favre who never missed a game. Be like that.
Seriously if Brett Favre had his appendix out would he miss a game? Would he miss an important one?
That's the difference between Hall of Fame and Al J. Can we trade this guy already?

An appendicitis, Eja. You going to kick Al when he's down with appendicitis?
He started off our first 3 games of the season averaging 11 and 7, shooting 53% from the field and blocking 1.3 shots per game. This is off the bench, and without him getting consistent touches in the post. This is very encouraging and its just silly to be ripping him because he went down with appendicitis.
Had Jefferson continued to play through the pain in his ankle last season, he could have jepardized his career before it even got off the ground. What good is that?

Favre also got hooked on pain-killers... Glad he is off them now, but it did happen.

Al J doesn't have appendicitis. He has wussicitis. Am I going to kick him when he's down? Yes. yes I am. Cause he goes down. All the time. It's all he does. As soon as he is done with this he'll bump his head on his desk and get a concusion. Or he'll break his hand writing a Christmas card. If he doesn't like getting kicked when he's down then get the hell up.
According to wikipedia
"Recovery time depends on age, condition, complications, and other circumstances but usually is between 10 and 28 days."
Given that he is young and a pro athlete he should recover in 7 days. But not our Al. He's gotta take 6 weeks.
Once there was a Japanese WWII Zero pilot. The guy was flying for 4 hours when he got shot through the head, which blinded him in one eye and paralyzed the left side of his body. After looking for and not finding a target to kamikazee he flew the remaining 5 hours home half paralyzed thinking he would die. He managed to barely land his plane on no fuel and insisted on giving his mission report to his superior officer on the runway before he collapsed. After a year and a half recovery he managed to get his superiors to allow him to fly again and he went on half blind to become the leading Japanese ace to survive the war. At the age of like 84 he found and shook hands with the gut that shot him thru the head. AL can't hold an atom to this guy.
6 weeks apendicitis indeed.

Steve, i don't get what you are saying here at all because you left out a noun or an adjective or a verb or adverb or something. Ok I guess I'll do or don't since those are the only options in life. Then you used a moticon, and the only moticon I know is lol or other easy ones like wtf.
Right. War is totally different than basketball. So if a guy in war can function in severe pain and still have heroic presence of mind then Al should be able to function on a basketball court where there is much less on the line while getting paid exorbitantly for a job most would pay to do without taking six weeks to recover from a very simple procedure. It's not like he blew out his knee or got crushed in a vehicle accident like Bobby Hurley or Jay Williams or Kellen Winslow.
Al either needs to grow a sack or get himself into a nice safe bubble where he can go for 20 and 10 a night on his fisher price basketball set where people can marvel at his potential.

And you know who else was a wuss? Larry Bird! He missed over a 100 games because his 'back' was bothering him. What a wuss. We should've cut him. Players that weak could never lead a team to a championship! Let's cut all players who've ever been injured! They're all wusses! Tear your ACL? Tough. Some Japanese due got shot and the face drove a plane. You shouldn't let a measly leg injury stop you from playing 82 games of basketball at a world-class level.
