I enjoyed watching the team play in the 1st half, particularly the second quarter. The second unit was phenomenal!! Rajon, Jefferson and Kandi (yes Kandi) were quite the energy tandem and they were able to do a lot of damage. The team was running and scoring, and playing solid defense heading into the half (Rip certainly hits a bunch of lucky shots, doesn't he?)..
But then something happened during the half, and we completely ditched what was working and went back to playing slowdown halfcourt offense. It was frustrating and I was wondering why Doc wasn't yelling at them to run. I mean, c'mon guys, you had just seen how effective we can be when we are pushing the ball and instigating the action on defense. The Pistons didn't know what to do. Jefferson was dropping shots and pulling down boards left and right. Rajon was wheeling and dealing passes everywhere and putting up runners at will. Kandi was getting a bunch of rebounds and altering shots as if he was a man possessed. Wally and Gomes were knocking down shots on kickouts. But yet, Doc didn't get on their cases when they mysteriously stopped pushing the ball--especially Telfair. I'm certainly hoping this kid succeeds, but right now, Rajon clearly needs to be the one in charge because he gets the tempo going. Its like night and day. I hope Telfair sees this and gets into the action and starts pushing the ball.
Anyone else noticing that Wally is fitting into the uptempo game more than Pierce? Wally is doing a better job of getting shots in the flow of the offense, especially when we are running, while Pierce is getting his points going solo.
I blame Doc for not commanding the starting 5 to push the ball at the start of the 3rd quarter. He stayed with the starting 5 way too long while they ate up the shot clock on every possession. They slowed down the game and the tempo was totally deflated. We were like a race car going only 10 mph. I was totally upset
If Doc doesn't get this team running consistently soon, he won't be here any longer. Wyc and Co. had said they will be patient. But they invested a lot of money to make this team entertaining and they are banking on a winning record to draw a crowd. They invested 360 million dollars to purchase this team and spent a lot of money making the arena state of the art, and they aren't going to let fans walk away in disgust for too much longer.
