One thing about the Bulls that I hope we emulate is their defense. A couple of years ago, as a young team, they started to win games by playing solid defense. I think they led the league in opponents FG%, and that's a goal we need to strive for (they kept the Heat to just 39% last night). We are going to give up points, just because of the nature of the uptempo game. But our opponents FG% is more indicative of how well our defense is performing.

Both the Bulls and the Celtics have a young talented team. The big difference in the two is that the Bulls has a coach that teaches defense and can implement it... we haven't had one in the past. I am willing to give Doc a chance this season, but don't have my hopes up after his statement last season. He really doesn't get defense.

Its ironic because when he first came aboard, he was enamored with the Pistons' defense, as they won the championship that year. He made comments as if he wanted to be defensive minded like the Pistons, but so far it has not yet happened.
But let me just say this in Doc's defense (even I'm finding it hard to defend Doc these days). He took over a team that was not a defense oriented team. His bigs were Blount and Raef. Pierce and Ricky were his big players, and neither were defensive minded. Then, Ainge made the big overhaul to go younger, and that contributed to our inability to defend (it takes time for most young players to learn how to defend--unless your name is Rajon Rondo).
For as long as Doc has been coaching in Boston, he has not been given a steady team to work with. It changes before his eyes and it gets younger all the time. In time, Perkins, Allen, Rajon and the rest should hold down our fort defensively. But for now, we will have to wait till it develops. Hopefully, this will be the season that we start to show flashes of defensive brilliance.
