The past 2 preseason games have shown us a glimpse of a formidable 4 man rotation at C and PF in the making. Perk, Gomes, Jefferson and Powe have all been strong rebounders in their limited time on the court. In these past 2 games, all 4 have given us rebounding totals that would translate into double digits over the course of an entire game. But more appealing than that is they are giving us ample offensive boards and putbacks. An offensive rebound and putback was rarely seen last season, which forced us to go through a lot of one-and-done possessions. In last night's blowout win against the Knicks, our 4 young bulls yanked down 29 boards, of which nearly half was on the offensive end (14).
Gomes has clearly earned a spot in the starting lineup over Jefferson, but Al may find additional playing time covering for Perk at C. Al has shown improvements, and as his confidence builds, we'll see bigger numbers from him.
Though Powe is a rookie and will undoubtedly have his rookie periods during the season, once his feet are firmly planted, he gives us a strong rebounder off the bench, who in time, will also provide us scoring in the post.

I still think that Powe is going to get very limited(possibly in the DL) minutes. My guess is that Gomes and Al will get the minutes at the 4, with Perk, Theo, and occasionally Kandi getting time at the 5.

The way things are shaping up, with Theo being injured and Doc wanting to go with smaller lineups, I see Powe being in the right situation. He's proving to be a strong rebounder because he gets his nose in there and plays physically, and this may convince Doc to use him at Center when we go really small, or use him in conjunction with Jefferson off the bench to give us 2 good scoring big men.
Powe is at risk to be sent to the D-League, though, because of the numbers crunch. I believe only 1st and 2nd year players are allowed to be sent down, and if that's the case, Allan Ray, Leon Powe, Ryan Gomes and Gerald Green are the only ones eligible. Gomes is a lock to stay, and I don't know if they will send Gerald down again. If Ray makes the team, he's almost a lock to be sent down. So it may come down to either Powe or Green.

Powe can play in this league. He needs to stay with the team as he is one of our best rebounders at this point. If given minutes, I believe he will really help the team. My fear is that Doc will start playing Scal when he is cleared to play and Powe will sit. If Powe doesn't get minutes, Doc needs to go.

It'll truly be a disappointment if Scal is playing over Powe. If we are playing really well and Scal is contributing to our success, it won't be as bad that Doc is ignoring Powe. But if we are struggling to win games and we are a weak rebounding team, if Scal is playing while Powe sits, Ainge needs to strongly consider looking for a new coach. I can only support Doc so much. His decisions do bother me at times.
