Ok, the big man depth has finally cleared up. No more Pitts and Akingbala to worry about. But with the departure of Dwayne Jones, that leaves us with a really short list of actually bigs who are of legit height to play Center against teams who have 7 footers.
I don't think its probable that Theo Ratliff is going to remain healthy for an entire 82 game schedule. This leaves us even more vulnerable.
But we are still packed at the wings and 2 guards. We are really heavy there.
Is there a way Ainge can make a trade for some big man help?

I think that Danny may still be trying to swing a trade. Otherwise, Grant wouldn't still be listed on the roster. I am not sure who is available. I read that they weren't really happy with Boozer. I also read that Seattle is coveting our young guards. I can just see Danny going for Swift who he has wanted since Seattle took him.

Or maybe go for Danny Fortson. He may be a nutcase, but he's a big body who carve out space (for the record, I'm not a fan of Forston).
Still don't know what Ainge likes about Swift. But heck, I trust Danny's eye for talent, so if he sees something in Robert Swift, and he has a chance to go after him, by all means, do it. If Seattle wants one of our young guards, swamp one of them for Swift.

if he makes a trade, it will be a small one. The scale of the salaries on his team don't give us a lot of bargaining ships. we don't have any contracts to do a "2 for 1 (really) good player" type of trade. We either have promising youngsters with minimum wages or almost untradeable contracts ala Theo & Wally. The only "usefull" contract in these type of deals, the ones that vary from 3-6 mio, is Scala. But who would want to get him in return?

Good point. I think that's a tough call for Ainge. He may have the desire to move some of our young talent, but being that they make peanuts, salaries don't match up.
Theo has years left on his contract and he makes roughly 11.6 mill per year. Next season, his contract will become a bargaining chip. Brian Grant has a 1.8 mil contract that expires this season, but even that isn't significant enough to do much matching.

I think Danny wanted to evaluate the players in the preseason to assess a future trade if needed. Danny was able to plug one of holes, the PG position, now I think it is the C position.

I'm sure we could always get Blonut back if we were desperate for Centers.
Realistically, I think we end up with Olowakandi hanging on as our third center at the NBA veteran minimum and he will finally live up to, if not exceed our expectations.

i don't think it would be good to make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. I would hope it would be something like TA for an equally good and promising big man who costs a little less money. Something great would be something like him for Cedric Simmons. The bad part is that we would get even younger, but the good thing is that he is on a rookie salary and we could really use some competition at that spot. Another deal would be Scala for a moderately bad 4 year legit big man contract. Someone like Kato. Know what I mean?

No way DA can trade DA for a decent big man.

Most likely not (at least not straight up). But a snipit out of Seattle is that they are waiting for us to release one of our young guards in hopes of snatching them. Well, the only young guards we may possibly cut are Allan Ray or Luke Jackson. Delonte, Tony and Gerald are not going to be cut.
So if they want Tony, lets talk Swift-ly ;D

yep. Exactly. That was kind of my point. But since TA has proven himself more in this league I'd want something like a conditional 1rst or a future 2nd tacked on. They can afford it with all their young bigs.

Yeah, I agree. They have Swift, Johan Petro and now Saer Sene. They aren't going to need those 3 Centers anyways. Ray Allen is approaching 30, and Rashard Lewis is 28. Aside from them two, the Sonics don't have good wing players on the rise. They need to prepare for the future by bringing in better wing players.
Its not like Delonte or Tony are going to be big time wing players who take Seattle to the top, but they are better than Denham Brown and Kareem Rush.
The Sonics lack wing depth and have Center depth. We lack Center depth but have wing depth. Seems like a good trade partner.
