Powe did really well for himself by having a big rebounding game. Just the other day, Doc had some discouraging comments about Powe, and it didn't look good for the young PF out of Cal.
But 11 pts and 15 rebounds later, Doc is singing his praises, and hopefully he will continue to use Powe and not relegate him back to the bench.
We need rebounds and tough physical play, and Powe provided that for us in this game.
But read these comments Rivers made after the game:
We needed a guy in the first half to just come in and play hard and play physical and be a man, and he did that
“You know what I love about it is it’s a message to the other bigs,” Rivers said. “There’s a guy who’s willing to get his nose dirty, and you better do it or he’ll be getting your minutes.”
Ouch. I hope all our bigs take offense to this and come back with a vengeance to prove Rivers wrong.

Yippee Yay hooray! i have been saying all along that Doc needed to play Powe. The kid is a player. He is tough as nails and a natural rebounder. He averaged a double double in college and has worked very hard on his game. I didn't see how Doc couldn't play him. I didn't see anything like this from Pitts or Akingbala or even the renewed Kandi. Doc better keep Powe because he is going to be a very, very good player. This wasn't a fluke and he will give us that toughness and defense we need from a big. I am glad Scal was injured if for nothing else than Doc probably would have had him in the game instead of Powe "doing all the little things".

Lets see if Powe can be consistent. He might possibly be another 2nd round steal.

I'm all for a guy who shows the effort he did last night. Tommy Heinsohn made a great point about powe last night. He said Powe's not a great leaper, but he carves out position for himself and holds his ground. Dennis Rodman was never great leaper, but his game was all about effort & hustle. I need to see more of powe, but the game last night was a great start.

I thought Rodman a pretty good jumper.
However, Wes Unself could barely clear the floor.

More than leaping ability, big men who use blocking out techniques find more success. Timing plays a big part as well, but you can mask the lack of great timing by blocking out and clearing space for yourself.
