Since we've had some games to evaluate guys just wondering who do you think makes it and who gets cut?
I'm assuming barring a trade these 12 are guaranteed a spot
Telfair Rondo West Pierce Wally Green Allen Gomes Jefferson Perk Ratliff Scal
That leaves
Kandi Powe Jackson Ray Pittsnoggle Akingbala Grant

Right off the bat, you can cross off Pittsnogle and Grant off that list. That leaves us with 5 players to choose from with 3 slots. I'd personally keep Luke Jackson and Leon Powe. Powe showed that he can be a rebounding factor off the bench in tonight's game (vs. the Nets).
Its then a toss up between Kandi and Allan Ray. If Kandi has a new look on life and he wants to play hard every game, then keep him. I like Ray and think he has a game that fits in the NBA. But we are too overstocked at the guard position. We are thin up front at Center, due to Ratliff being banged up, so it makes sense to hold onto Kandi--but he's got to be able to play hard and be productive.

My problem with Kandi is he is just playing for a contract although he is still a serviceable 3rd center. I just hope we dont overpay for him, he doesn't play hard and he's another Blount as far as I'm concerned. I agree Powe is a definate keeper after tonight. Any chance we cut Scalabrine? I have not been impressed with Ray at all. I personally would keep Pittsnoggle over Ray. Right now I see Powe and a bunch of guys I dont want. I dont know anything about Akingbala though and havent seen him.

Well, I guess its possible to cut Scal, but he's due to make another 12 million and I doubt we give away that kind of money.
I don't think it will cost much to sign Kandi. No one wanted him this summer and that's why he asked to participate with us. He came to our doorstep looking for employment because no one else wanted him.
I'm not big on Kandi, but if he can provide steady minutes as our 3rd Center for cheap, it wouldn't hurt to sign him for a 1-year contract.
I don't know what's going on with Akingbala, but he's still with us so apparently there's some interest.

I would keep Powe for sure, and Jackson and Kandi. I believe that bringing in Jackson makes Allan Ray expendable. So far, Jackson has played better than Jackson. If they keep ray, it would be Jackson who gets cut. Kandi is a 7 footer. Even doing minimal effort, 7' center is a plus. I doubt we pay him much and a non guaranteed contract would be a plus. I don't know what it is that Doc sees in Akingbala, but he didn't show it in his play this preseason. Same with Pitts. So out the door will be Grant, Pitts, Akingbala and either Ray or Jackson, probably Ray. I have been saying all along that Powe can play. I just couldn't see how a kid who works this hard and is that strong couldn't be doing something in practice to earn time. I am glad he was able to prove that he can play.

Yeah, you were pumping Powe up pretty well all summer long, FL. Glad to see him make Doc look silly for not playing him until now.
Luke Jackson is definitely a keeper, ahead of Ray (and I like Ray).

Pitts gets cut cause he isn't good.
Akingbala gets cut cause he has done nothing but be hurt his entire camp here. Rookies who get hurt in camp become players that are hurt a lot.
Grant gets cut cause he's way over the hill and hasn't played a minute yet.
LJ gets cut cause all he has done in his entire career is be hurt. He's older than Ray, can't play any pg at all (I think Ray can a little and with West hurting maybe we should think of that), makes more money, and has been bad his entire NBA career. He hasn't beaten Ray out. Also Ray can be stashed in the NBDL the next two years and LJ can't. Not only has LJ not soundly beaten Ray out, but Ray is just starting his NBA career whereas LJ has been here a while now. Yeah yeah. LJ had great college stats. So did Ray.

I concur w/ CF. The team is stacked at the guard position, so Ray is a cut. Pitts doesn't bring enough to the table as well. Kandi I think would be good to keep around to be bantha fodder in practice.
