Seems kind of strange that, for the most part, the Gerald Green fanclub has been relatively quiet.
Here's a kid who has the game and excitement to really bring some buzz to Boston. He finished the season strong and ended on a really good note. He headed into the offseason with a lot of promise because we knew that we have only begun to scratch the surface of what we can expect from Gerald.
He's a big time scorer in the making, a human highlight film on the rise. He's already got a smooth jumper and it looked even better in the summer league. He also gotten more muscle on his skinny arms and added more weight to his upperbody.
But yet, all the talk is about Telfair, Rajon, Jefferson, Perkins, Gomes, Powe, etc. We talk about Delonte or Gomes being our 6th man, but fail to mention Gerald's name anywhere in the same sentence (BTW, I'm just as guilty as anyone so I'm not pointing any fingers). We talk about Telfair and Perkins being the key to this season, but forget that Gerald has the opportunity to steal the show with his offensive firepower.
This kid has got more star potential than any young player on our roster not named Al Jefferson, but yet, he hasn't gotten much attention this summer, while every other young player has been mentioned daily.
For all the talk that Delonte may be our 6th Man of the Year, Gerald Green could surpass him if he's improved his defense and learned a few things about moving without the ball.
One day, Gerald is going to be a star in the starting lineup and he will light up the score board nightly. But for now, we mustn't forget that, as young as he is, he's still one of our best offensive weapons, and he will be an asset off the bench.
