I'm listening to CelticsStuff live right now, and they are discussing Delonte being a 6th Man award winner this season.
Lets hear why you guys think, or don't think, Delonte will be the winner of the NBA's 6th Man award.

I thought Sczczeriak was going to be in that role. Then again I could see Delonte getting it too. Being the ultimate team guy, I think he would be happy being the 8th man of the year award.

Well first he has to be beat out before we take him out of the starting lineup so I'd say no, he probably won't get 6th man of the year award. Oh wait. This is Boston and the coach is Doc who give out playing time based on evil pword so he probably will be getting the 6th man award while his other points can't handle the job.

I don't remember at all when Doc played someone based on potential. If anything he didn't play anyone unless they showed it on the defensive side of the ball. If your theory was correct, Al Jefferson would've started more than 5-7 games. right now, its between telfair, rondo, and west. One of them should be a starting pg in the nba it's only a matter time when someone comes out victorious. Far as the question goes, D. West won't win the 6th man award but he'll be recognize as one of the better guards to come off the bench in the nba.

I figure that Wally will be the starting 2 (though, I'm all for putting Tony Allen in that spot), and Telfair is most likely going to be the starting 1. That leaves Delonte on the bench. Will he be the first guy Doc uses off the bench?
Well, unless there's a specific player in foul trouble, Doc generally uses substitutions at the 2 minute mark of the 1st quarter and brings in a couple of fresh players. I can see Delonte being put in for Wally, but I can also see Doc using Tony Allen since he's a defensive catalyst and a fastbreak guy.

Right JHVOS. That's 5-7 games that Gomes should have started cause Gomes was better last year and he would have started every game that Gomes started had he not got hurt, but admittedly my theory breaks down when you consider GG didn't start games till it didn't matter and perk didn't start games, and neither did TA.

If Doc was a guy who started players b/c of potential, Mark Blount wouldnt have been starting for us the first half of last year.

One argument that I can think of, of why Delonte may not be a 6th Man award winner, is because he isn't a good one on one scorer. An excellent team scorer he is, and when he's hot, watch out. But he doesn't thrive in creating his own offense, and generally, 6th Man award winners are guys who can create points by themselves.
In general, guys who win the 6th Man award are impact scorers. Rarely will you see the 6th Man award go to a guy who is a good defensive player, or a guy who does the little things that don't show up on stats. It doesn't seem to work like that. Ricky was runner up for the award 2 years ago because he was a scorer off the bench. And the guy he lost to was Ben Gordon, also an impact scorer off the bench.
