Just doing some GM work here before I go to bed. There was talk that Phoenix wanted to move Shawn Marion because they need to save some money to spend on Boris Diaw and Leandrhino Barbosa's contract extension. So .....
Marion: ('06) 15 mil, ('07) 16.5 mil, ('08) 17.2 mil
Wally: ('06) 11 mil, ('07) 12 mil, ('08) 13 mil
We'd probably have to throw in a mid level exemption to make the salaries work, and that could be used to secure Boris Diaw, and the extra money they'd be saving, they'll use it to sign Barbosa up long term. Plus, Wally gives them another good outside shooting threat, and Phoenix absolutely loves them type of players. Plus, they don't want to take on a lot of contracts in return, and this trade would just include Wally and an exemption.
We'd make this move because Marion is one of the top SF's in the game, is an excellent defensive SF (loads of steals and blocked shots), and is much better for our uptempo style of basketball than Wally.
What do you all think? Yes or no?

I doubt PHX would do it. Theyd at least want someone with an expiring contract in return.

Yeah, that would be ideal for them.

Marion has been the one player that I have said Danny should target all along. I would love to get him. I don't want to give up too much of our young players to do so and if it was young players, it would take too many of them to match salaries... We have an expiring contract in Grant, but we got him from them so that won't work. Ratliff will expire next season, but we need him since our center rotation is a bit weak. I just don't see us having anything they want right now.

I expect Phoenix to move Marion for either a young potential starting center along with an expiring contract. Their is no need to give up the best rebounder in the league for a sharp shooter when the Suns don't need to add more offense to their already offensive oriented roster.
