I'm agreeing with that (except I'm adding Allen to the mix). But I think Wally is gone at the trading deadline next February, unless we are doing unbelievably well (like being a top 3 team in the East). Reason why is, we have too many players who are on the verge of realizing their potential who just need more playing time (Green, Allen and Delonte). The only way to get playing time is to remove someone and Wally would be the odd man out.
With this core of players, we have big scorers in Pierce, Gerald and Jefferson, we have strong rebounders in Perk and Jefferson, we have a potentially stellar PG in Telfair, and we have excellent role players in Gomes and Delonte.
That leaves 2 darkhorse candidates who could really blossom into studs: Tony Allen and Rajon Rondo. Both have top shelf athleticism, both are creative, both are defensive assassins, and both have a lot of basketball skills. With all these gifts they posses, they may either turn out to be studs, or they may be question marks. Some guys have all the abilities in the world but just can't seem to put it all together. I hope this isn't the case for Allen and Rondo.
When all these players finally reach their ceiling after playing in the league for 5 years, this will be a strong core.

I don't necessarily agree with Wally Z being gone at the deadline. I stay with West, Pierce, Sczczerbiak, Jefferson and Perkins as the starters. Ratliffe, Telfair, Gomes, Tony Allen, and Gerald Green 2nd unit. Rondo and Scrubbabrine round out the first 12.

You have to look over the horizon on this one, Q. Pierce is a definite keeper (unless there's a blockbuster trade that makes us better than we are with Pierce). Delonte gets a lot of love and adoration from Ainge, Rivers, and fans because he's such a scrappy player who has a very good understanding of the game. Tony Allen has a very good chance to remain with the team long term (if he gets off his legal issues) because he's our best perimeter defender, he fits in well with our running and uptempo attack, and he does the little things that help our team win games. Gerald Green has tremendous potential as a scorer and I doubt Ainge moves him.
What makes me think Wally is the odd man out is his lack of speed and athleticism, and the fact that he is nearing 30 yrs old and may have knee issues down the line.
Its not because I don't like Wally, nor think he's a good fit with our team. I think he's a very good addition to our team.
But if we are to look over the horizon and figure out how we are going to fit 5 players into 4 slots (2 starters and 2 backups), and keep the ones who are still going to be playing strong 5 years from now, I would think Wally would be the logical choice to be moved. Now, it may not happen this offseason, it may not happen before the season starts, and it may not happen at this year's trading deadline in February. But at some point, I think the decision will be made to move Wally.
This will free up more playing time for Tony, Delonte and Gerald, and this is important because they are our future.
But I must make this critical point: If we are playing very well and are near the top of the Eastern Conference, I don't think Ainge will touch a thing. He will keep what we have and tinker in the offseason.

I think Powe might be a keeper if his knees hold up. Yes, a second rounder. However, if it weren't for speculation on his past injuries, he goes in the first round.

But the way I look at it there are different tiers. So far Powe hasn't "earned" his way into the "core" yet. He's still too new. The "core" itself cannot be too big either, or else it would be a whole team. So if a few people join the core, my take is that a few people have to be bumped out of it. I guess that is my definition of the infamous "core. Not necessarily I guess, but the reason that BC didn't include Delonte or Gomes is because it will be financially impossible to keep ALL of the young guys. That's why I really believe is this year is a "training camp year" in that we will start to see who is part of the future and who is not. We just have way too many young guys. If everyone pans out, the only way that we will see the team stick as we see it now is if everyone signs contracts identical to Perk's and I just don't see that happening unfortunately.

Future Core: Perk Pierce Jefferson Telfair Gomes Rondo Green West
Like you said, I believe in a year or two Gerald Green will step up and take the starting sf position away from Wally. In fact, I wouldn't be shock if Wally goes down this year and G.Green becomes the starting. Possibly taking the spot permanately.

BC, no Delonte or Gomes? I'm curious to know how you feel. i think that they are both two of our most marketable young guys. and i hate the concept of being undersized, especially in the nba

I know that they aren't part of our core but is Dwayne Jones undesized? Is Pitt oversized? Does that mean they aren't "true" centers? If they aren't what are they?
