pf - unproven talent and nothing else. pretty similar to pg. however west and telfair should be at least decent while jefferson is a question mark and gomes is too short to be effective regularly

Tentatively, I would have to agree with BC. Despite liking Gomes and thinking he's an exceptional garbage player, I think his role is better suited off the bench. That leaves us with Jefferson in the starting lineup, and I believe in the kid and really like what I see from him, but until he proves he's ready to compete night in, night out, he's still an unproven commodity.
But what may currently be our weakest link, may turn out to be one of our strengths. If they develop and mature into the players they have the talent to become, Jefferson, Gomes and Powe could really make our PF position deep and impactful.

PF is definitely our weak point. Even right now we don't even know whose going to start next season. Atleast at PG we have a proven NBA player, Delonte West, and two potential starters with Telfair and Rondo. Like you guys said, Jefferson needs to step up to get the media off his !!!GREENIAC!!!. Or, we'll see Gomes playing 35+ minuters per game which gives us a huge disadvantage when it comes against most big/athletic PFS.

You know what? I'm willing to head into the regular season with this team we have right now. No need to make trades, no need revamp the roster before the season starts. Sure if the right deal comes along to bring in a guy who will take us to another level, I will be happy to pull the trigger. But if nothing happens from now till opening day, I'm content and looking forward to seeing what we can do.
I'm not looking to pound on the Piston's or Heat's door, nor do I think we will dominate teams like the Pacers or the Nets. But I do think we'll play competitively enough to be in most games and even win some games we're not expected to.
And after another year of seeing the young players, we'll have a better idea of who's really got game and who's just pretending.
Theo is in the final year of his contract next year, and his 11 million can be used as a trading chip.

Our weakest link is the coaching. I believe that we will have players at each position take a leap in ability this season. Perk is going to get to the next level at Center with Ratliff to back him up, we are in good shape. Jefferson is going to make a leap at Power Forward and behind him are Gomes and Powe who will also come on strong. I believe that both Telfair and Rondo will take a leap this season in this system. And if one falters, we have West right behind them who took that leap last season. We have Pierce at SF and I believe he will have an even better season than last. Gomes and Green behind him will be better than last season and will be able back ups. Shooting Guard is covered with Wally and West and Allen.
Nope, I don't think the players will be a weak link. The biggest question is how will Doc coach them. If his rotations and in game decisions are not better than last year, the improvement in each of these players may be neutralized by Doc's ineptitude. I can only hope that the addition of Clifford Ray and Kevin Eastman can bring some experience and better decision making to Doc's coaching.

You may have a point there, FL. But I'm willing to give Doc his due time as well. We must remember that he hasn't had an easy job trying to juggle the rotation when his roster is filled with young and inexperienced talent. That doesn't give him any excuse for using Blount and Raef so much, and not enough of Perk, Jefferson and Gomes, but he's learning. I'm going to optimistic towards Doc and hope he learns how to be a better coach.

Power forward for sure. Not that there isn't any talent there, it's that they haven't really produced much or proven anything. Al still needs to develop and Powe is just a rook. Gomes did produce last year when given minutes but he is not the prototypical or ideal PF in a running game. He reminds me a lot of Delonte, a tweener who really should be coming off the bench and going back between the small and power forward, a "combo forward" if you will.
Al still needs to prove himself and average some good points and rebounds, at least 12 and 7 I would say for this year for him to not be a disappointment.
Point guard we are better off than at PF. At least Delonte was able to put up some numbers last year running the point. Telfair is a true point guard with 2 years experience under his belt, and Rondo is a great prospect.

All good points, Esco. I agree that Gomes is like Delonte, in that he's a tweener who isn't ideal at either position, but somehow finds ways to be effective.
I actually think Gomes playing SF in our big lineup will be his ideal situation. Gomes runs the floor very well (he will be the reciepient of a lot of lazer passes from our PG's on the break) and he's an excellent finisher. But against weaker SF's, Gomes can utilize his post up game, and this is where he can prove to be more valuable. He's excellent at attacking the basket when he's facing up, but against bigger and stronger PF's, he's not able to do as much damage as he can against SF's.
SF's may be quicker and more athletic than Gomes, but he can overpower them to the basket.
I'm expecting a breakout year from Big Al this season. It almost started to happen last year, but just as it was starting to happen, he injured his ankle again.
