4 mill in 2007-08 with incentives.
I'm guessing he'll get around the MLE type money towards end of this contract. He'll only be 26 years old which gives him a shot at getting a big deal.

I concur. I thought it was a typo at first, in reference to $4 million. At worst, a defensive player who can block shots @mle.

Hey, good move if this is true. At worst, Perk is a serviceable foul prone big man. But at his best, he's a big rebounding, solid shot blocking enforcer. We are in no position to lose any of our big men, especially if he is young and talented.
Quite a deal for only 4 mill a year.

I can't begin to tell you how happy this makes me. I just love this kid!! Danny got a bargain by signing him for 4 mill a year (plus incentives) and if I know Perk and his work ethic and his motivation, he will gather every one of those incentives. Perk has said a couple of times that the Celtics took a chance on him and have believed in him and he feels he owes them. He could have looked at the contracts that others like Nene have gotten (and Nene got that after being injured the entire year before) and he could have held out for more money. If he was a restricted free agent next summer you know he would get some hefty offers. But Perk has character and opted for a reasonable contract and will use the next 4 years to prove himself and become one of the top big men in the league.... At 26 when he needs to resign, he will be able to get his big deal. He is a huge bargain at 4 or 5 mil a year, given what big men are going for... I mean, Scal is getting 3+ mil a year and Blount got almost 7 mil... Perk is worth way more than both of them put together. I love this kid..... Drinking plenty of koolaid today....

Did his agent forget what position he plays? I don't even know how this could happen. Did he approach them with the figure of $4mill ( I thought he'd at LEAST get the MLE or maybe a mill more), or did they approach him? If they approached him with that figure what were they thinking? This is beyond miraculous. Derren I was giving you guff the other day that nothing would be stranger than us getting Oden but this is way up there and totally unexpected.

Supposively with incentives the deal could be around 4 years for 20 mill so he'll get close to MLE money. It's a win-win situation for both sides. Celtics pays a cap friendly salary to a young center with the potential to be a starting center in the NBA and at the same time Perkin's get financial for himself and his family. He'll be 26 when his contract done which still gives him the time to have a big pay day.
Pierce and Perkins extension has made this off-season a successful offseason.

I had a feeling all along that Perk isn't about the money. He plays to win. And he seems like a loyal guy. Put all that together, and its no wonder why Perk would be fine getting what he agreed upon.

Sweet deal for both sides. I really didnt want perk to hit the open market. The pistons or the spurs IMO would have made a strong offer for his services. Thanks perk for your loyalty, and may you be a celtic for a long time!!!!

Hey, long time no see, GC34. Good to hear from you. Yeah, if Perk has a strong season, some playoff team will try to nab him in free agency, and we may be seeing Perk in a different uniform next year. Really good move to secure him for the next 5 years, which will take him till he's 26 yrs old. If he's a star by then, we can give him a little bit more ;D
