At one point, I was certain a trade was going to happen right after the players we've acquired in the Portland trade were eligible to be traded. Moreso Theo Ratliff, and not Sebastian Telfair.
So far, its been a week since they've been eligible, and so far, nothing has happened yet. We still have a month before the start of training camp, and there's still ample time for Ainge to pull something off.
Why are we still a prime target to make a trade? Because we are overloaded and we have to trim the roster down. And we can make a significant upgrade if we can trade some of our young assets for a proven veteran who can help us plug one of our weaknesses.

Just read on Celticsblog that Theo Ratliff is in town (along with 8 other Celtics players), working out preparing for training camp.
Here's what was written on Celtics.com:
Ratliff just arrived in Boston and was getting to know his teammates, who already learned today that he sets solid picks and carves out space for his jump hook quite nicely with his broad shoulders. The elder statesman on the floor by far, he was already dispensing advice to younger players about setting picks and getting open.
YES!!! One of our glaring weaknesses is our players don't know how to set picks, nor how to use them. Perk is good at setting picks, and Jefferson is good at rolling after setting a pick. But both of them can become even better, and I'm glad Theo is willing to teach them.
Well, there goes one of my hints that led me to think Theo was not going to be a part of the team.
This doesn't automatically mean that he's going to be a Celtic at the start of the season (or remain a Celtic throughout this season). It could be that he's trying to keep in shape and since he's technically a Celtic, he's working out in Waltham.
I'd be content with Theo on the team at the start of the season. He's a veteran big man who can block shots when healthy. He's never been a big time rebounder, so I'm not looking for him to be any better than Mark Blount was on the boards.

No. We don't do the trade now. We know we have young talent, but we don't know what will happen on other teams. We aren't really dealing from a position of strength right now. We have to wait till we are. Or we offer PP and I don't think that will happen. Or we trade everything it will take to get Oden point blank. But we don't make stupid trades like Al J, GG, and Rondo for Iverson. If that is what is being demanded and I bet it is or this would be over we have to take a page from Ralph Wiggum and say "I'm walking away". We have to find a team willing to start over. That means we trade some salary in the form of a Wally, one high level youth prospect like Al J, one medium like Delonte or TA, and one low like Powe and maybe a draft pick, but none of this 3 top level guys stuff unless it is for Duncan and that's not going to happen. I have been adamant that a top level player who will lead you to a championship will usually be good pretty much the second you draft them, but in this overfished league there will occassionally be more and more players maybe taking two or three years to develop. Maybe you get two silver level guys that way. We are getting close to figuring that out and the great thing right now is that it is a lot easier for us to replace a guy like say AL J if he doesn't pan out than say a KG if he doesn't pan out. If Al J doesn't pan out we just dump him like a bad girlfriend. If KG doesn't pan out it will take a very messy divorce. That's where we pounce. We don't try to trade for a top notch Hollywood wife while there is still hope cause the price will be high.

no trades will happen before a couple of months of regular season have passed. then some teams may emerge who may start over due to various reasons. it's ngoood for us as well - gives youngsters more time to prove themselves

I am hoping for no trades... and I think Danny is going to wait now until closer to the trade deadline. This team with no changes really has a lot of promise. I expect break out years from several of our young players. And I expect the chemistry to be great. The one weak link is the coaching. I am hoping that Doc has spent a lot of time with tape over the summer and will be improved. If he is improved and gets the team playing defense, this should be a very good year. We may not need a trade.

Unless someone offers DA something that can refuse, I can't Ainge making a move until the trading by the very least.

To me, it sounds like he is still actively trying to get a trade done before the season starts. It may not be a big blockbuster deal, but something that will allow us to bring down our roster size.
