We have 17 players on the team right now. 2 have got to go before the season. If we don't make a trade, who will Danny cut?
I had thought that Grant would be cut since he isn't going to play but then Danny said that he may hang onto him to facilitate a trade and that would mean cutting 2 other players.
The most likely cut will be Pittsnogle the way I see it. His signing seemed to be an after thought and I don't believe he will out play our other bigs to make the team.
Danny seemed to like Allan Ray a lot. He would be a good player to bring off the bench to jumpstart the offense. If he impresses in training camp, he may stay around. But if Danny wants to keep Grant's contract, Ray may be the other cut since if he is cut before Dec then his contract comes off the books.
Many want Scal to be cut but I just don't see Danny eating that salary and being that he is one of our few veterans Danny should keep him just for his leadership, even if he doesn't play.
I see Danny keeping Powe since we are kind of weak in our bigs and Powe is going to be a player. He brings too much to just cut him loose.
Of course, there is always the possibility of a 2 or 3 for 1 trade and that would solve the problem, with Grant's contract being one of the players traded.
Just something to think about...

I see Pitts being cut. I know DA likes Allan Ray a lot as well but I see him going also just because we have SO many 1's and 2's. I see us keeping Powe and he may wind up being just as effective as Big Al anyway.
Like you said FL. Danny may not to have to cut anyone if he does a 3 for 1 trade before the season starts.

K-Pitts for certain. He offers nothing other than the 3 pt shot, and its not looking like he's going to beat out any of our top 4 big men anytime soon.
The other likely option, if you were just looking at it on paper, would be Brian Grant. But Ainge has mentioned that he would like to hold onto Grant's contract, being that he's in his final year of his contract. Plus, since we have so many young players who are making little money, if we want to do a trade, we'll need to include players who have some weight in their contracts and Grant would help the cause.
If Ainge holds onto Grant for this reason, I think the next guy on the totem poll is Allan Ray. Ray's outside shooting and his ability to be a productive catch and shoot guy makes him a nice guy to hold onto, especially since we got him for nothing at all. But we have Delonte West, who Ray mirrors anyways, and Delonte has already proven himself to be a valuable player on the team.
But, what I think Ainge is trying his hardest to do right now, is find a multi player trade that will allow him to send away 3 players in exchange for one.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a 3 for 1. If not Pitts, and Grant.

We now have 18 players and Doc is thinking of whom to keep. Players who I think are on the bubble are:
Olowokandi Akingbala Pittsnogle
...possibly Allan Ray too, but I hope not.
Doc had a good thing to say about Akin Akingbala, which I found interesting:
“Akin is a guy you’ve got to think about keeping,” he said. “He’s not ready, but he’s got skills that nobody has defensively.”
Wow. Not even Theo or Perk? I'm curious to know what skills these are.
Sometimes, Doc will say things that are exagerated. I wonder if this is a case of saying nice departing words to Akingbala?

How good can he be if nobody ever heard about the guy. In this league all you have to do to be a top pick is be 18 and dunk a ball and yell.

Pitts, Akingbala and Grant should be cut. And Kandi too if they need to cut one more. I was very upset to read them make a case for cutting Powe in today's paper. He can play and is a very hard worker... we need to keep him or be sorry. Jones could be a very good back up for Perk for years to come. Kandi is a one year thing and he hasn't worked very hard to succeed so far in his career so what makes them think he will work once he gets the contract this time. Keep Powe.. keep Jones. Ditch Kandi, Pitts, Akingbala and Grant.

is akingbala and olowokandi signed at all? i don't think so. the roster is: pp wally gg al perk delonte tony sebastian rajon ryan theo leon scalabatabakahafahakahabrine allan ray dwayne jones kevin pittsnogle brian grant
as you see the number is 17. out of this bunch expect grant and pittsnogle being cut. as for akingbala and olowokandi (both suberb names aren't they?) they probably will be told to take a hike. btw - doc praised akingbala lately so maybe he will be given contract instead of dwayne jones. who knows but we'll know it all pretty soon.

I would take DJ over Akingbala, largely because I've seen DJ play and not much of Akingbala. But if Ainge decides to keep Akingbala and release DJ, I will be upset, but will also put my faith in his decision to keep Akingbala. Doc mentioned that Akingbala has raw defensive skills that no one on the team has, and this intrigues me. I mean, we have Theo, a former 3 time shot blocking champion, and Perk, a strong defender on the rise, but still they don't have what Akingbala has. Hmmm .....
But if its up to me, I'm keeping DJ because I have hopes in him.

My guess is Dwayne Jones is looking for work by next week. Getting no time in a pre-season game is troubling, especially when youre healthy. My guess is we'll cut him early to give him a chance to catch on with another team. And it doesnt seem like Powe is safe either.

I think it was a combination of 2 things. 1) Olowokandi was playing real well, and 2) Doc will give DJ playing time in tomorrow's game vs, the Raptors.
Seems like the best way to see what players can do is to give them extend amounts of playing time. And since you can't give both Kandi and DJ extended playing time in the same game, he'll alternate them.

Kandi is not signed I don't believe and it could be argued that he is playing for a contract. That said he is making a case he deserves one, but he could be fairly expensive for a 3rd center.
