I got this from Real GM: scout.scout.com/a.z?s=159&p=8&c=1&nid=2674127 Latest word, and you need to have the Premium Membership to Scout: West Virginia alumnus Kevin Pittsnogle has agreed to a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics. Some, but not all, of the contract will be guaranteed.

Hells yes. The combonation of Scals and Noggs is going to give us the goofiest bench in the NBA. We should sign Popeye JOnes to make our games nearly unwatchable.

Hmmm... I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise (if its true). Ainge likes big men who can shoot, and Pittsnoggle can certainly stroke the ball from long distance. A big man who shot 85% and 86% from the free throw line the past 2 years, and better than 40% the past 2 years from beyond the arc, tells me that he is really a threat with his shooting. In some ways, he reminds me of a less versatile Brad Miller--big man who can knock down shots from midrange and out.
I can see him as a training camp and preseason filler, just so that we have big men to throw in the competition. But since some of his 2-year contract is guaranteed, it doesn't appear that this is the case.
But his rebounding numbers at West Virginia ain't nothing to write home about. His career high was 5.5 rpg this past year--hardly what I would expect from a 6'10" big man with his bulk and toughness.
We need frontcourt depth, but if his only contribution is his outside shooting, I'm not so sure if he'll be anything more than a specialty player off the bench.

Noggs is gonna bring a new group of fans to the Celtics: Hillbillies. I cant to see footage of the Fleetcenter parking lot pre-game, it'll be nothing but busch light and IROCcameros putting on smoke shows. It will be great. Nogg is gonna be a huge fan favorite if he makes the roster. The crowd will go nuts the one time a month he actually gets into a game.

This is a real headscratcher - unless Scalabrine is about to be shipped out. Then we would have a cheap 12th man to throw in there to try to make something happen. My guess is that there may be a trade in the works - Scalabrine, Jefferson and Tony Allen for Drew Gooden (Signed and traded). Hate to give up the young potential of Allen and Jefferson but we definitely need a reliable big and Drew Gooden is certainly that.

It seems to me that Danny is working up to a trade of either Allen or Delonte with Gomes and Scal.... He signed Ray and he would fill the spot left by Allen or Delonte. Powe is a similar player to gomes and now Pittsnogle could fill Scal's spot (Or Raef's).... Gomes and West both have very good trade value and there are teams out there wanting them. I don't think it is Al who will be traded as much as the other 3. I would love to trade Scal.... for anything. Doc tends to use him too much and he is too limited.

Interesting signing to say the least. More than likely to fill a spot on the ndbl or possibly take 12th spot I.e. Scala gets moved. Hopefully ainge is making a move for gooden, boozer or wilcox. We definetly need a big man who can fill a spot on the starting rotation.

This really overcrowds our roster, and it doesn't make sense that Ainge is filling it up with even more inexperienced rookie (already has 4 rookies on the team--2 of which weren't even drafted). We were really young as it is, and now we get even younger because we replaced Raef with Pittsnogle and Dan Dickau with Allan Ray.
I'm not sure what to make of the Pittsnogle signing. Getting frontcourt depth was definitely a move I was in favor of. But filling it with a rookie is not the ideal way to shore up our frontcourt depth.
There must be a reason for this move. Ainge did not have to pick up Pittsnogle. It wasn't like we absolutely needed him.
It could be that Ainge really likes the advantage of having a big man opening up the inside by pulling his defender away from the basket. He traded for Raef when no one else wanted him, so getting a much cheaper version of Raef is at least better in that sense. But I'm more interested in our bigs working in the paint.
Oh, I'm beginning to see some sense in this. We now have penetrating PG's who need room in the lanes to drive and dish or score (Telfair and Rondo). Pierce is also a guy who likes to take it to the basket. And we have slashers who cut to the rim (Green, Allen). Plus, Jefferson needs room in the paint to operate and if Pittsnogle can pull his man away from the paint, that'll be one less big man to get into Jefferson's way.

But Pittsnogle plays no defense and doesn't rebound... two very specific needs of this team. Danny ought to be out there signing more defensive stoppers like Rondo instead of guys who are known to be defensive liabilities... This one I don't understand. But I do see that Danny is setting us up to trade 3 or 4 for 1 somewhere.

Pittsnogle is a PF, not a wing player like Wally.
Right, FL. We need big men who can rebound and defend. Pittsnogle certainly does not epitomize that characteristics.

It almost appears like Danny is stock piling good, but similiar talent at every position. Either an asset trade is in the works (3 for 1, 4 for 2), or Danny is going to use the NDBL, and hopes Rondo, Powe, Ray, Pittnoggle, will develop into good players.

It would be hilarious if we win the NBA championship and the NBDL championship (I believe Ainge is trying to get our own D-League team, right?) ;D

Not sure where DA is going with this one. That makes 16 guys signed, and he can only have 15, including those who are in NBDL. P and Ray and Powe don't make much, so cutting one of them won't break the bank.
This signing looks to give something of a clone to Raef. Even though don't see him making it just to be an outside shooting specialist at the 4 or 5.

headscratcher indeed. expect him to be waived in training camp a la will bynum. i suspect a trade is coming - too many relatively similar players gomes/powe, scalabrine/pittsnogle, west/allen. you can probably find player who will be traded from that bunch. also too many rookies - i just don't think we'll be carrying as many to regular season.
