Actually. I would much rather trade for a guy like Boozer or Gooden than AI.
Hey, I like AI as much as the next guy. I have his jersey. But not for this team, and this combination of players. Wouldn't be a good fit IMO.
To get a guy like Boozer or Gooden, you give up WAY less and fill a need.
I am in the same boat as FL. We need a big. We have SO MANY 2's and 3's. Getting Iverson would not help us that much. Probably just improve our overall offense, more scoring punch, etc. etc.
But we need production from our low post guys.
I already expect Perk to put up near double-double numbers (10 points, 10rebs).
We just need our power forward to average 15 and 8 and we will be ok to at least compete in the East this year.

Big Al will be that 15 and 8 guy this year, Esco. That is, if we don't trade him for Boozer.
Yes, I too believe that we will be better served getting a big in a trade, as opposed to Iverson.

Big Al will be that 15 and 8 guy this year, Esco. That is what I am hoping DM. I would love to see the kid succeed here. The Clifford Ray signing had me very optimistic and still does. I just hope he was taking it easy in summer league to not re-injure his ankle because he really should have crushed the competetion there. It was a bit disappointing.

Actually, he wasn't taking it easy in the summer league. Plain and simple, he wasn't getting the ball. And when he did get it, there was a lot of traffic surrounding him, so he had to pass it out (and didn't get it back). He was very active on defense, switching and covering a lot of area from the free throw line and below. He was an active rebounder, finishing as one of the top rebounders in the SL.
He showed more patience and played under control; signs of maturing some.
Yes, I wish he could have dominated the SL. Had he gotten the ball and the guys cleared out for him, he would have had big scoring games. But that's not the nature of SL. Even Amare Stoudemire did not dominate like he can.

i didn't really like any of the choices that much. I agree. Unless we can get these players for pennies on the dollar, I'd rather go into this season with what we have.

Last night, watching the Denver game, I was impressed by Al diving on the floor for a loose ball... He was putting out the effort. I agree that he wasn't getting the ball in the post as much as he should have. I think that will happen in the season though as they start to realize that we will be more successful by feeding the post than tossing up 3's. I really am hoping that Doc will get this since his outside Center was traded. We have 3 players (maybe 4 if Powe develops quickly) who are capable of dominating in the paint.... Perk, Ratliff, Jefferson and possibly Powe. We need to take advantage of that this year. For the most part last year, whatever Perk and Al got was from getting offensive rebounds because the offense was built around the wings and the outside. If we use the strength of our inside play more this year, we will be a much better team.

Right you are, FL. We didn't have any post players last year (or the year before that. And the year before that) and we solely relied on the perimeter game. Our offense can become one dimensional when that happens. Luckily, we had Pierce to make things happen. But even with Pierce having a career year, we only won 33 games.
We cannot just be a perimeter team. We need to incorporate the inside game to open up the outside game.

Man, don't know where my brain has been.
All of this talk about getting this one and that one, and needing a big, and so on.
Duh!
We've ALL forgotten. We have the Candy Man!
And I think his price would be right.

What about Troy Murphy or Baron Davis?
I'm sure they could be had at a cheap price.

I don't think any of our bigs are dominating.
Yet.
Ratliff has been dominating, on defense only.
I wonder if Al's low post game is not highly dependent on his ability to make quick moves and jump well, something he is not yet able to do. ?Someone should have taken Al under wing and dealt with the tape issue BEFORE he had the second sprain.

I would have no problem with Troy Murphy except that he is from NYC.

Let's not kid outselves. DA will get the best bargain, if he makes a trade. It will be the best bargain, not necessarily the best player. He has spent too much time, effort, and capital accumulating young assets, and he isn't going to stip the team for a veteran star.
He now has PP locked up for 5 years, which gives him some time for the kids to develop around his star.
One article was talking about how good Roy is going to be, and how much of a mistake it was to deal him. Well what position does he play? The 2-3---or is he the one that someone may try to make a PG. the 2-3, where the Cs are filled with depth, some devloped and some on the way. And he got back a 1 and a 5, both of whom fill critical needs for the kind of team DA wants---a defensive center and a fast PG who can run an uptempo game.
