Has there always been, in the league, the attitude of certain players that "I deserve to play on a championship level team?" Or, was there more of an acceptance of the fact that their teams just couldn't quite get there? I'd like to see some interviews of some of the old timers on this.

Great thought provoking query.
For the real old timers, there was only one team that could win the title. ;>) Through the eighties, there were only three or four teams with a legitimate shot.
Most players were just happy to get a paycheck and there was very little player movement in general.
In recent times, so much has been made in the media, over players like; Ewing, Barkley, Malone and Stockton not winning one, as in the "not like Mike" testosterone sweepstakes, that this has become an issue.
Realists should consider that there have been a few players with a championship; "WILL." Those lucky enough to play alongside of them got rings.
Should Antoine Walker really earn any more respect, or gain self esteem, for having become one of Shaq's; "little buddy's?"
If Paul Pierce should learn anything from Walker's experiences since leaving the Celtics, it's how easy it is to fall from the exalted position that Antoine was in , when you move from your drafted team, as "The Man," to another more talented one.
