I think that playing AJ at center is great for the summer league. Gives him an opportunity in a competitive game to practice playing the position.

I pick Gomes to start over Al Jefferson only because he is a reliable producer. However, Jefferson is longer and has more upside (always a dangerous word). I also have not ruled out a possible trade of Al Jefferson (along with Pierce!) for a new major piece.

Woah woah woah. What is this about Big Al's ankle is not still fully healed? If that's true trade him. I had all 3 ligaments in my ankle snapped, a chip of bone had to be screwed back on, and my tendon was pulled off a little. I was running in like 8 weeks after some fancy surgery. I've also had an ankle sprained pretty bad and was running in 3 days, albeit I was getting taped before games, but if you can't heal an ankle in like 4 months seriously go join the wheel chair league cause you'll never be anything in the NBA. I never liked sickies.

What next? the guy can't play cause of severe alergies? Where is Gen Patton when you need him? "You're not hurt. You're just a coward."

Gomes has another solid outing, putting up 22 pts and 9 rebs.
Big Al had another invisible scoring game (only 9 pts on 3-5 shooting), but did contribute with 9 boards.
So far, if these games are any indication to what we're looking at in November, Gomes starts and Al comes off the bench. Right now, I would not mind this at all. It'll force less pressure on Big Al to produce as a starter until the time comes when he's ready to take over the starting spot.

BC, from what was said in the 1st game, Gomes was hitting pull up jumpers and pick and pops. In tonight's game (vs. Toronto), he was said to be doing his damage inside, getting garbage points and transition baskets.

Al should start at PF. This is summer league, so of course a hustling and NBA-ready Gomes is going to town, but a true PF he is not. Al will match up better with PF's during regular season. Gomes will have to play 6th man. This is the Al that is trying to get back to 100% too. So let's not fool our selves, he's behind in development. Al still has the most upside and needs the PT. Gomes will be Gomes like Eric Williams was Eric Williams. Not saying he's hit a ceiling, but he will be a great 6th man.

Eventually, I do think that's how things will pan out. Gomes will be a terrific backup player at the 3 and 4. But right now, and this could be the case in training camp leading up to the season openor, Gomes is playing light years ahead of Jefferson and Big Al has yet to show that he is capable of doing damage as a starter. If this is the case, Big Al will be backing up Gomes until he shows that he is ready to step into the starting lineup. I feel that its a toss up right now, just because Al could turn it on any day once his confidence catches up with his development. He's got the higher ceiling because he's much quicker than Gomes and has a bigger body (not in terms of muscle mass, but in body frame + height + length). But if he can't out-produce Gomes, he'll have to sit until he proves he can.

I think Gomes will Start at PF while Jefferson will take over the starting spot over Kendrick Perkins at Center.
That's why I think Jefferson is really working at Center because this team is trying to enforce the small ball movement. You'll see more lineups with small pfs like Gomes or you might possibly see Pierce playing PF as well. I think you might see a lineup look like this:
C - Jefferson/Perkins PF - Gomes SF - Pierce SG - Wally/Green PG - Telfair/West
Lineup with Pierce at PF
C- Jefferson PF - Pierce SF - Green SG - West PG - Telfair/Rondo

I thought of that lineup a few times in the past (the first one, not the lineup with Pierce at PF). Undersized yes. But it could work.

The C's did not ask Gomes to slim down and work on his outside game to play him at the four. He is now and forever, officially a three (there will be small lineups, at times). He is already the best defender on the team at the three, I would start him there and bring Wally in as sixth man. Jefferson and Poe are the fours, unless Ratliff can give us substantial minutes there as well as back up Perkins. I still think we need another rotation player at the 4/5. Magliore? Boozer? Kenyon Martin? It would cost Szczerbiak and might not happen until Wally's knee tests out, but I expect that's what Danny is thinking.

dI don't accept the idea that Gomes is now officially a 3. haven't read it yet. And he was playing the 4 at Vegas---Green was playing the 3.

If Ainge can't make a deal for a serious rotation player at the 4/5 and knowing Rivers, I'm sure he will play there, but the plan was to convert him. That was written extensively from interviews with Gomes this summer and obvious in how the team asked him to mould his game. In my world, he's a three. ;>) Imagine a defensive team of Ratliff, Perkins, Gomes, Allen and Rondo? It would be like the old "Steel Curtain" in Pittsburgh.
