Ainge says he wants to go for smaller rotations ala the Suns this year. I really believe this move will have a positive effect because our most athletic players will get a chance to get out and run. A running game like the Suns will fill the win column IMO. This may be why he pickeed up Ratliffe so that we don't compromise our defense around the rim. Al, Perk, and Theo will have to really guard the basket hard to prevent transition baskets.
I really hope we keep running, running, and running some more! We will blow the doors off of other teams and in the process we are surely going to be entertained with all the dunks we'll see!
Notice how all our Bigs are more of shot blocking rebounding types and our guards and forwards are young fast and atheletic (Peirce being the cornerstone). Al may be the only exception here, because he combines offense with defensive intimidation.
Some thoughts?

You said it all, imo Loy... I like the Theo pick up. More value for the fouls/blocks in the paint.
Think twice about driving to the hoop, kids...

If Danny wants a Suns-style, up-tempo offense, then why is Wally still around? He's much more suited for a half-court offense...
This type of comment has me thinking that Wally could be out the door soon. He could be traded for big man help or maybe even a guy who can fit better in a Suns-style offense. Maybe someone like Shawn Marion or Richard Jefferson.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid...

That's not always necessarily true VI.
To be a good running team, all 5 guys do not have to have the ability to run like lightning.
It is always a good thing in a fast break offense to have a bunch a guys who can get up and down and run and sharpshooters who can trail behind the break and setup for 3's around the arc. That's how I envision it anyway.
Having said that, Wally could be very effective in an uptempo game. Believe it or not, he plays hard and can get up and down the court. He actually had a few breakaway dunks last year after he joined the C's.

Getting Marion will help us be more like the Suns.
As long as we play better defense than the Suns, I have no problem trying to have an explosive offense like they do.
Their mold seems to be--shoot the ball well, run the fastbreaks, get good spacing on the floor, make quick decisions so that the defense have little time to adjust.

You are right though, to be a running team, you need to have athletes who can run up and down, but I think Wally if we keep him could do good trailing behind to spot up for threes. I think his 3 point FG% would skyrocket, cuz he would get a lot of open looks.
I also was thinking about the combo of Perk and Theo in the middle C17. If Theo can stay healthly, and get a few blocks teamed with Perk if his shoulder stays healthy, we could have a mean little defensive combo down in the blocks. They both would be challenging every shot, and at least altering most of them.

I like what Wally Z brings to the Celtics. The offense seemed to run much better for a time after the All-star break. We need his offensive efficiency in other words. I'm not sure that trading him, Tony Allen, Scalabrine, and Delonte West for Iverson makes us a better team. That is what Danny boya gets paid to do instead of this lowly internet messageboard GM.

I seem to remember a former Celtic who wasn't the fastest guy on his feet who was deadly as a trailer. Would head for his spot beyond the 3-point line.
Hick kid named Bird.
Doubt that Wally will ever be mentioned in the same breath, but maybe he could do some of that stuff.
Still lvoe a quote from one of those games: "When you look at Bird out there, you're looking intot he eyes of an assassin."

Good one Ferbo. A "running team" might be best called a "passing team". That's when it all comes together.
