‘‘My style is to play uptempo. There’s good players there and I can help make them better and get them outside shots. Doc said he’s watched me for a long time. He told me he spoke to Paul and Paul told him, ‘Give him the ball.’’’
Sebastian Telfair, from Mike Fine's column in the Patriot Ledger
********** If Pierce is on board with putting the ball in the hands of the point guards, I'm really psyched!

Definitely, JB... That is something we really need is to take the ball out of Pierce's hands when he starts the ISO stuff and then turns the ball over....

I think Telfair will limit Pierce's turnovers, because he is true point guard, and Pierce had a tendency to hold the ball too long, because he didn't trust the PG.

The only thing about being in an uptempo offense and having a quick PG who likes to get out and run is, the players need to constantly get out and run, and always look to get open so that the PG can hit you in the numbers.
Pierce hasn't adjusted to this style of play yet. If he wants the ball, he's going to have to move around and get open, and this includes running hard on fast breaks. I can count on onee hand how many times I've seen Pierce last year, get out on a fastbreak and receive the ball to finish the play.
We talked about becoming more of an uptempo team last year, but it didn't happen. Delonte didn't help push the ball. But its not all his fault--not many guys on our team got out and ran.

This will be Doc's biggest challenge, iin spite of Pierce's quote in today's paper about giving Telfair the ball. Danny seems the puppet master pulling the strings: trading the veteran players Doc plays, in order to get the younger players minutes. I believe that sooner, rather than later, now that Ainge has the roster he wants, he'll be looking totrade Paul, to implement his preferred style and we will have a bit of a turf war ,with Ainge on one side and Pierce/Rivers on the other. Wyc will have to decide, which way he wants to go. Stay tuned!

Yep, staying tuned, JB. Ainge says the Portland trade is not the only move we'll make this offseason. He's looking to do some damage this offseason and make our team legitimate playoff contenders.
