Is there any possibility that we can get Iverson without giving up Jefferson or Gerald? They are our future cornerstone players. I'm assuming that Ainge wants to pair Iverson with Pierce, so I guess Pierce is out of the question too, right?
Wally is involved, but he's certainly not going to be enough. I think Telfair was acquired solely for this reason. Ainge was high on Rajon Rondo to begin with and would have taken him at 7. So he really had no need to trade for Telfair because we would have just kept the 7th and taken Rondo as our future PG.
The Portland trade for Telfair is a bit suspicious if this was all there is to the deal. But if getting Rondo was Ainge's intention from the get go, then trading for Telfair is just a part of the Iverson negotiation process. It was a predetermined trade to get Philly the PG they want (Telfair).
But Wally and Telfair are not going to be enough to grab a superstar like Iverson. More is going to be needed, without giving up Jefferson and Green.
If we are to hold onto these Al and Gerald, then the other youngsters may have to be left unprotected. Perkins, Delonte, Allen, or Gomes (or a combination of these players) might be in the Iverson deal. But as much as we may love these guys, including them in the deal doesn't seem like enough because their trade values are not so high.
Honestly, would giving Philly Wally, Telfair, Delonte, and next year's 1st round pick sound like enough to get Iverson? It certainly doesn't sound like it will do the trick.
Oh hold on, I think Utah is also in the negotiations too. Boozer was supposed to go to Philly, right. Alright, would Boozer, Wally, and Telfair (and both our 1st rounders) sound like enough to get Iverson in green? But then, who will Utah get? They are giving up a pretty good player in Boozer and won't just want leftovers in the trade.
How in the world is this going to work out without giving up Jefferson and Gerald?
