l just love this trade yessssssssssssss Me too Eddie! ! ! Ratliff and Telfair add depth to our team. Reaf misses too many games and Dan his no D to his game. Not to mention the dollars spent. Not to say Reaf hasn't had some solid games. We just need more. Ratliff could be a plus at 30 mins of post play. Rebs & BS...

If somebody had told me that we would find a sucker to take the contracts of Raef AND Dickau AND give us back a good young pg prospect, AND a 2nd rounder (which could easily turn out to be a high 2nd rounder) AND we'd get a decent big man back with only two years left on a big contract, and that it would only cost us Randy Foye who was aparently destroyed by Rajon Rondo AND that we'd also get him too THIS year for a first rnder NEXT year and taking a small contract of Brian Grant, AND we were going to get some cash AND we were going to get a good 2nd rnder THIS year in exchange for a 2nd down the road I'd say either DA is a genious beyond all possible belief or the rest of the league is very very bad at what they do. This is the single greatest draft night of any team ever. Not the luckiest. That goes to getting Jordan 3rd. Not the best end results cause nobody knows that yet. But the morning you wake up you realize this is the greatest draft night ever. It's all you could ever ask for. All we have to do now is sit and wait to see what happens.

Eja, the same thing just dawned on me today. We really did well on draft night, not only with drafting players, but getting rid of some.
We wanted to become a faster paced team--getting rid of Raef is a start. Getting Telfair and Rondo is another. We wanted to get a bit of financial relief and we got rid of Raef and brought in Ratfliff, who comes a bit cheaper.
Telfair came into this league with a lot of hype as a future star PG. His 2 years in Portland didn't help, but the potential is still there. As long as he has the right attitude, he's got a shot at making it happen here.
Rondo is a very gifted player. His instincts and intangibles are off the charts. I've read some comments on other boards where posters say that Rondo is basically Banks 2.0. That is certainly not the case. Banks is a scoring guard whose court vision is a bit questionable. Rondo is a playmaker who has terrific feel for doing the right thing on the court. Both have ball pressuring defense, quickness, and athleticism, but that's pretty much where the comparisons end (that, and neither player has a steady outside shot). Banks will show better stats when he plays on a team which maximizes his strengths, but Rondo is a better fit for this team.

I agree. It's weird DM, cuz you actually if I recall mentioned way back a few months ago that Telfair might wind up with us and that he would be a good fit with his speed, passing, and pure point guard play.
When I saw ESPN say that our pick was going to be traded and then I saw Telfair's name up there I didn't know what to think.
I like Foye a lot and still think he will be a star player in the league. Not on the level of Wade but close. Like a Gilbert Arenas type.
But as I think about it, Telfair is a different type of player than Foye. Sebastian is a true point, and it seems as if Ainge is trying to really follow through on making this an uptempo team.
I was so surprised that another team would actually take on Raef's contract as well. I guess Portland really is trying to acquire "quality guys" in the locker room getting Raef AND Dickau, the local boy.
It also does look as if Telfair and D West will battle it out for the starting PG spot, so says Doc.
Rondo was a great pick/trade at number 21. He is the opposite of Marcus Banks in that Marcus was a scorer first, passer second. Rondo is a true point that passes first and shoots second.
They both play stellar D, with Rondo actually having a much better reach with his long arms. Marcus is probably a lot stronger though.
All in all, I do not agree with the rest of the nation's "experts". I think we had a decent draft night for what we needed to try and take the team to the next level and be more competitive. I stand by Ainge and am excited to see what can develop with this "new team". The Celtics are SOOOOOO much better off now than before Ainge was here.
It's funny. We just cut a guy in Greene, who probably would have been one of our better and "top prospects" back in the Obie era.

I like Foye and still wish we could have held onto him, but I do see Ainge's reasoning for not taking him. Ainge wants a speedy PG who thinks pass first. Foye isn't this type of PG. If Ainge was looking for a PG who could score with the best of em, Foye is his man. If Ainge was looking for a PG who could bully his way to the basket, Foye is his man. But as it is, Ainge is looking for better speed and passing from the 1, and Telfair and Rondo are his men.

Look for Rondo to do some time in the NBDL ala GG. It will help him.

Yep, that could very well be the plan. There isn't a need for a rookie PG on the team at the beginning of the season. Rondo will get his feet wet at the NBDL, lead the league in assists, and then be brought up after the All Star weekend.

Portland taking both Raef AND Dickau has to rank as one of the greatest blunders of recent drafts. Not like taking Same Bowie over Jordan, bgut headed that direction.
Wonder how West is feeling given all the demonstrated enthusiasm about DA bringing in 2 PGs who play differently than he does.
I'm not convinced that West is going to be a big factor at the 2. Especially with Wally here. Or if AI shows up.

Good question. I'm sure he will definitely take it as just another challenge. Having competition like this will only make the PG position better.

He has acted like a class person to this point, so I don't anticipate it causing problems with him. Yet he has to wonder.
As high as DA is on Rondo, I expect him to get a chance to compete in pre-season just to see how he stacks up.

Well, in a recent interview, kind of sounded like he was a bit offended that Ainge was looking for a future PG (and Ainge raves now that he's got 2 great young PG's on draft night).
Delonte is versatile. He can start at the 1 or be a backup, play the 2 as a backup, or play the duo PG role when Doc wants to use multi PG's on the court simultaneously. If Delonte isn't traded in the Iverson deal, he will still have a role in some big capacity on the team. He's scrappy, hard nosed, intelligent, and a terrific shooter.

No one on this team should feel like "well, I'm guarantee to start so I don't have to really try out there" unless your name is PP and even PP works harder than most of the players on this team. DW needs to come in training camp as hungry as he can be. Or, he'll sit on the bench. I can see DW and Telfair starting at the same time especially when we're trying to go small ball. I don't see DW complaining from this situation if anything he'll want to be motivate more to become a great player.
Trading for Telfair and Rondo can only hope West become a better player. Not worst. I could careless how upset dw feels. Prove me you're better than Telfair and Rondo or enjoy the bench. Its that simple.
Prove it or Shut it. Thats all that matters to me.

I see that too, JHVOS. Delonte could play alongside of Telfair in the backcourt. Delonte and Wally will be recipients of terrific passes from Telfair (if he plays smart) on kickouts. Both Wally and Delonte are terrific catch and shoot guys.
